Politics

Ok, I’ve had my good night’s sleep, so I’m not as depressed anymore.  I made a mistake.  My apologies, loyal readers!

In this post, I reverted to old tactical politics, thinking the death of the public option could somehow be made to cost Republicans.  That’s how deep I used to be in the tactical politics of the 1990’s – it’s my instinct to help Democrats, all Democrats, by trying to craft alchemy out of a pile of shit.  Well, it’s time to put that instinct to bed.

Because the only people who will pay for the death of health care reform, which is what will happen if there is no public option, are Democrats.  And most likely to lose their seats are the Democrats who most oppose the public option, the Blue Dogs.  And you know what?  Fuck them.

I don’t know why the White House wants to bend over backwards to make Republicans happy, not a single one of whom will vote for any bill whatsoever.  At the moment, they are tickled with glee because they have people with guns at presidential events getting provisions out of the bill they falsely identify, falsely lie about, and falsely use to scare old people.  With guns.  This is insanity.

They’ve gone so extreme, so fast, Republicans are all in.  They want this bill dead.  And to bend to a bunch of twitching, sweaty, gun carrying lunatics at town hall meetings, which is what this “debate” is delivering, is to be a god damn cowardly fool.  House Democrats are pushing back on the public option, and Blue Dogs damn well better join them, or they will be the first to go in 2010.

Question for Blue Dog Zack Space and your ilk – how the fuck do you think you’re gonna survive a Republican year in 2010 fueled by what Republicans will claim as a “victory” over health care reform?  You think you got problems now?  Wait until you look at your empty campaign offices in October 2010.

I was there in 1994.  I staffed one of those empty offices.  My most reliable visitor was the homeless dude who came by every day to ask for a quarter.  I watched us get rolled, because these ideologues were pumped up after they killed health care reform, Dems were depressed because we lost this big battle, and guess who got into congress in Ohio in 1994.  Mike Dewine.  Steve “BULLSHIT” Latourette.  BOB FUCKING NEY.

It’s a crying shame that people get elected to Congress who are such cowards that a couple of town hall meetings poisoned with lunacy scares them into turning their backs on the people who need their help the most.  Well, guess how the electorate deals with cowards.  They get GONE.  Fast.

Ask me if I care, Zack.  Ask me if I care that in autumn 2010, you will be so alone, so surrounded only by these lunatics, that you’ll be wishing one fucking Democrat would turn up to even be in your field of vision.  I once got paid to make sure people like Zack Space somehow survived their own cowardice.  Well, I don’t anymore.  Sometimes I forget, but all I needed was a little sleep, and a few commenters, to remind me.
