After repeatedly calling for civility at sleepy GOP town hall, Latourette calls my question BULLSHIT – twice

Politics

WELCOME HUFFPO READERS!!!  My thoughts on the event here.

The hypocrisy is on full display in this video.  Not a single Republican town hall event is going to be disrupted.  You know why?  Because not a single Republican is going to vote for health care reform, under any circumstance, and their constituents know it.  This video speaks for itself.

You did it again. Good job, my man.

  2. Marc Says:

where the fuck did this meeting take place? what’s that dopey “saloon” sign next to the meeting room?

  3. Marc Says:

BTW — nice job with this. That’s a BS question, afterall…

  4. Jason Says:

Wow! A congressman answers your initial question and you take an accusatory tone over his intentions. And he rightfully labels your concerns “bullshit.” Give an idiot a camera, and this is what they’ll show. Way to go.

  5. downburst Says:

It *is* a bullshit question. Labeling it a such is just telling the truth as he sees it. Badgering ≠ journalism.

  6. JIM Says:

THE CONGREEMAN REPLIED CORRECTLY. THOSE WERE BS QUESTIONS .

This town hall was held at Hamlet Village ~> http://www.hamletretirement.com/. Assited Living = IT”S NURSING HOME PEOPLE. That’s right, the pork fat fuck held this discussion among barely living seniors confined to a residence where it’s doubtful anyone could have thrown chairs, disrupted the event or event get near a facility designated for people who are living comfortably from a time we will never have access to ( medicare ). Why Steve couldn’t hold this in one of the 20 + empty storefronts in Chagrin Falls vacated by local businesses is clearly a calculated move to avoid the noid. Kudos for the camera catching mr-I-FIRE-DEMOCRATIC-BLOGGERS with the weight of My -Big -PORKYButt from the Plain Dealer. Sure, he loves Bloggers, just ask Jeff and Jill. Here is his support of blogging at the Old Grey Lady, now gasping for air http://www.mydd.com/story/2007/11/1/15160/6436. vote this guy out – NOW

  8. Rob Tate Says:

I’m sympathetic to your point, but this video does not speak for itself. The constant and sloppy edits to “bullshit” “bullshit” (which sound fairly civil to me, despite their profanity) show the maker of this video as having non-journalistic motives to call this guy out. It’s making a mountain out of a molehill, and that does not help our very important cause of getting health reform.

  9. Eric Says:

I’d like to give Rob Tate the Captain Obvious Award. Good snooping that one out Rob! You go!

  10. Eric Says:

It’s not a bullshit question. LaTourette has ZERO intention of voting FOR any kind of healthcare reform so that’s why he can stand there and go on about how serious he is and how he’ll take a look at this and take a look at that. He’s not being honest.

Put it this way. I’ve got $100 and will take any action that says Steve LaTourette votes AGAINST any healthcare reform bill that is put up in this Congress.

Any takers? Put your bullshit money where your bullshit mouth is.

  11. Kevin Says:

The Congressman seemed to be pretty reasonable to me– he said he wouldn’t vote for the current bill, but refrained from ruling out what he would do in the future. Maybe it’s true that he will never vote for reform, but this video proves nothing except that the questioner is kind of a jerk.

I’m in favor of a health care overhaul, but this style of questioning doesn’t help the cause. It’s just a snarkier and more tech savvy way of perpetuating the same fingers-in-your-ears partisanship that town hall protesters are guilty of.

  12. brian Says:

The congressman should MAN UP and admit he will under NO circumstance vote FOR a health reform bill.

  13. Imago Says:

I’m a diehard slathering liberal. Well, maybe not slathering, but pretty durn diehard.

I have been physically sick to my stomach (ironic, that, as I think about it) this summer watching the violence and the vitriol and the stupidity swirling in these town halls.

But you blew it on this one. As others have suggested, this isn’t journalism. He answered your question twice, civilly. You were rude and he snapped at you.

And, frankly, the mix of the “bullsh.it’s” in the video you did aren’t even vaguely journalistic, and given the guy’s name, not terribly kind. Looking at the trackback above — there is no “irony” here — you manufactured the “uncontrollable” swearing.

This isn’t how we win, folks!

  14. tim russo Says:

you’re right, i’m not a journalist, don’t pretend to be. what you see is the entire exchange. i’m not the one who said “bullshit” in a matter of seconds. the congressman is.

    nyah.

  15. Eric Says:

your journalistic integrity is for shit, tim! lolwtf

  16. bg Says:

did you delete my comment ? i was a whopper with cheese.

  17. steve Says:

he’s sure paranoid about George Soros, MSNBC and Keith Obermann.

Jeffrey Lundgren did this man a favor.

  18. Paul Says:

Here’s the thing… you aren’t *wrong*, and there is a bit of hypocrisy after the initial condescending call for civility…. but your question was a ‘bullshit question’ not because it wasn’t true, but because it wasn’t really a question… I mean, put another way, was there any way he could have answered the question that would have mattered? It wasn’t really a question, it was you observing (almost certainly correctly) that he is going to vote against health care reform… But what is he supposed to say in response? Your question presumes (again probably correctly) that if he says “not necessarily,” you are going to say “yeah right…”

I mean, the civility thing aside, do you think your question wasn’t bullshit? I’m not asking if you think you were correct, I’m asking if you really think you were asking an actual question in which his answer mattered to you in some way. Be honest.

  19. tim russo Says:

    paul,

the man is lying. he will NOT vote for health care reform. Ev. ER. he maintained that lie foor over an hour, in front of senior citizens, who want real answers, not duplicity.

it’s not a bullshit question, because the bullshit is coming from the congressman.

  20. Mark Keating Says:

Geez, you’d think a lawyer would be able to come up with some version of “I’m not going to answer a hypothetical situation.” Or at least something more family oriented than “That’s a bullshit question.” Twice.

  21. kevin Says:

You said “Because not a single Republican is going to vote for health care reform, under any circumstance, and their constituents know it”
DUH. Are you really THAT stupid to think that people would need to protest against someone who agrees with their side? Wake up Einstein. People DON”T WANT HEALTHCARE REFORM!!!! There is no need to protest the smart congressmen. There is no journalistic qualities to this video. None, Nada. Just because you drool at the opportunity to give up your freedoms and money to a bunch of people who time after time after time have proven themselves to be utterly irresponsible with that trust, doesn’t mean that you are in the majority. You aren’t. When the Democratic party has to resort to sending out Acorn and Union thugs to try and silence people that have a right to be heard, you have already lost the argument.

  22. kevin Says:

Why don’t you start being less hypocritical yourself and follow your leaders own words?
