Even Connie’s headline in the PD is a straw man – ever hear of a paywall guys?
These people really have gone into the ether.
Idea that would help save newspapers makes bloggers howl: Connie Schultz
Can someone tell me how the idea will save newspapers again? And of course, what makes bloggers howl is not the idea of saving newspapers – go ahead, save yourself, see if I care – but the idea of a corpulent corporate mouthpiece whispering sweet nothings to their US Senator husband’s ear across a pillow about gutting the First Amendment with federal legislation in order to save their jobs.
And of course, Ted Diaidiun, from his 6-figure salary which I guess he thinks is charity, joins the PD’s campaign to gut the First Amendment with the headline “Reporting the news can’t be an act of charity – Ted Diadiun”…
Neither idea above, nor others I’ve seen, propose putting a price tag on ideas or information. They suggest only the same standard that any other business has: Pay us for what we produce, or produce it yourself.
If we don’t get that, we can’t stay in business.
Did you people ever hear of a paywall? If your product is so valuable, put up a paywall and enforce your 24 hour link ban yourself. It’s easy, could be done tomorrow, by you, without involving your columnists in a campaign to lobby Congress to gut the First Amendment. Of course, the PD knows about paywalls, and they know that paywalls not only don’t work, but effectively kill the website. So they resort to their columnist who’s married to a US Senator to whisper sweet nothings into the Congressional agenda and lead a campaign! Ahoy!
Try a paywall first guys. In fact, if this ever gets to be law, the judge ruling on the inevitable lawsuit will probably tell you to do that, by injunction. Save yourself the time, money, and effort, and just do it tomorrow. Newspaper saved!
