Politics

When you act as hysterical as John Aravosis has in the last few weeks, it’s pretty clear you have no self-awareness.  Which is what John’s latest screed today proves in every single line.

Privately, I also wrote to four White House contacts on Friday night and asked that they also schedule talks with the top gay rights leaders with constituencies online -…and of course Joe Sudbay and me as well. I received no response.

Gee, why wouldn’t Barack Obama’s White house respond to a guy who compares himself to a “field negro”? Can’t imagine.

Now back to the Obama administration and the gays. In an effort to quell the online uproar, the administration and the Democratic party are reaching out to the offline leaders of the community. Or to continue the analogy, it’s two in the afternoon in gay-land but the White House is still relying on last night’s 6 o’clock newscast for the latest on the DOMA crisis.

Maybe because offline leaders don’t refer to themselves as “field negroes”.

Which takes us back to an interesting fact that most of the media missed during the presidential campaign. Team Obama likes to go it alone. I’ve written about their “political autarky” before.

Ah, still nursing that grudge from the primary, aren’t we?  I hear “field negroes” like to nurse grudges.

They believe they can accomplish great things on their own, without your help, thank you very much.  In other words, these aren’t people who play nicely with others – or even play at all.

I don’t know a single person with any political acumen on the planet who agrees with that.  Maybe it’s a “field negro” thing, and the rest of us just don’t get it.  Do explain, John.

But the offline groups no longer have the monopoly on leadership. There are new gay leaders, online, who are equal in caliber and import to many of the offline groups: Andrew Sullivan; Pam Spaulding, Dan Savage; Andy Towle; Joe Jervis, to name a few.

Forgot to name yourself, John!  ”Field Negroes” unite!

If they can get enough A-list gays and A-list traditional gay groups to attend enough White House cocktail parties and signing ceremonies, they think they can buy off our leaders and quell the community’s anger.

No, John, they think they can deal with someone mature and sensible who won’t resort to blatant race-baiting when they don’t get what they want 5 months into an administration by claiming to be a “field negro”.  Call me crazy, but I think Aravosis is starting to realize he fucked himself, and is now mourning his lack of access.

Tough being a “field negro”, ain’t it, John.  Especially when you used to be one of those A-listers.

You know, way out of the loop on this particular subject, but I applaud you persistence for reading that claptrap. I tried once a few years ago after I followed some link to the nth degree and landed there. AmericaBlog was in my reader for about 36 hours before I realized Aravosis is unhinged.

And too self-serious. There’s a reason he identifies with “field negro” as a term and Malcolm X as a peer – he thinks quite highly of himself.
