Careful what you ask for, Tea Partiers! Nutjob, unedited.

A common complaint from the numerous nutjobs who end up in my videos is that I edit them, that’s why they look like nutjobs. It goes like this – YOU EDITED OUT WHAT I SAID HOW DARE YOU BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH [insert wingnuttery here] BLAH BLAH BLAH!
Aside from the obvious – that video editing is largely done to make a clip consumable to the average internet video watcher, whose attention span is about 3-6 minutes, TOPS – if you want to complain about editing, do your own video, and edit it yourself. It’s easy. If you need pointers, all you have to do is look at Scene Magazine’s Frank Lewis for tips on how to edit to fit to a cheap shot editorial agenda – in Frank’s case, you have to sell your journalistic soul down the river by not even quoting the person who you are about to skewer, even though the reporter was already talking to the person anyway, but hey, who said Frank Lewis had a soul, and none of you people do either, so be my guest!
But I will remind the nutjobs that normally, the edited clip is much more friendly to them than the full monty. Internet video watchers can only take so much paranoia in one gulp. If I could get my viewers to watch your paranoia in its entirety, I’d do it. But I can’t, so I shorten it to fit their schedules, not yours.
All of which is amply demonstrated by this video – one of the folks who briefly appeared in my Tea Party PARANOIA video, unedited. In this full clip, he enters view with a mis-spelled sign, and starts the interview by asking me if I’m in the CIA or FBI. It’s downhill from there.
You decide which clip he’d rather have on the internet.

You really drew him out with that black people comment. Well played.

Clueless…but with the PD as his primary source of info, how could more be expected?

All those people getting money for nothing from the government and not working for it. Like, uh, you sir.

You’re basically taking advantage of a sap with poor reasoning skills. He said nothing about disliking blacks until you implied that he had. Though he can’t spell and he can’t argue, he did come back at you towards the end of the video with enough bile to make you a bit flustered.

It is a fair and legitimate point that massive stimulus / bailout spending will have to be paid by someone at some time; why didn’t you have a ready answer for that? Seriously, if you’re going to an event where you know people are crabbing (in part) about a future tax burden, and the best you can come up with is that taxes will be paid by “taxpayers”, you’re not exactly a sterling example of how smart “our” team is.
(A somewhat better and certainly less circular answer than “taxpayers”: the wealthiest Americans are the ones who benefited most directly from the bailouts and will benefit most directly from stimulus, and they’re also the ones Obama is raising taxes on.)

Before I begin, let me mention that I voted for Obama and support the guy, so I’m not some right-wing goon out here to slander your blog. However, I think that this gentleman makes several valid points, in particular about the easy lending habits that existed for the last decade. Instead of automatically insulting his intelligence, and more importantly, assuming that all Democrats (think: Clinton administration) were angels, recognize just how big a hand they played in creating our current crisis.
Refusing to think and question our leadership is the same thing that Republicans did under Bush. Don’t make that same mistake. Brain-dead liberals like yourself give the rest of us a bad name. Stop being so damn snarky and condescending, it’s pathetic.

Out of a day of thousands of people attending a protest you end up with a 3 minute clip of a man who misspelled a word and wouldn’t tell you whom he voted for. Impressive. He also mentioned the pressure of some groups on banks to loan to people who shouldn’t have gotten the loan (i.e. couldn’t pay back the loan) — and is directly connected to the sub-prime mess. And for this he is accused of being a racist. Good investigative work.

Funny how all of these ‘responsible’ commenters were not around when Bush&co. run up the largest deficit in US history. While keeping the WARS (plural) off the books. And if one more person uses the tired meme that the housing bubble was caused by fair lending laws instead of the real cause, mortgage bundling securities trading I’ll implode. The taxpayers are the people who will pay for their excesses.
