Most pathetic PD story of all time – they’re going into the parking business

After a long road trip, it’s hard to get back into the swing of things.  But blogging has a funny way of delivering the goods again.

A message today went to employees announcing the PD will be looking to rent parking and office space in its Superior Ave. and E. 18th building.

Management said that it was working with Grubb & Ellis “to explore the possibility of leasing a portion of the parking garage.”

Because, you know, people who work downtown really want to park 18 blocks from Public Square!  And of course, they’re renting office space, too.

In addition, the paper will attempt to lease space in its relatively new building working with Cresco, Ltd.

As I’ve posted before, the palatial PD building isn’t the greatest location downtown generally, I can’t imagine the parking garage filling up with anyone other than people who work in the building.  It isn’t anywhere near the Q, Progressive Field, or Browns Stadium.  Pretty far from Playhouse Square, too.  As for the office space, well……location rules there, too.  And right about now is a really good time to go into the commercial office space business, no?  In Cleveland, especially.

I think it will be better for all concerned if the PD just gets this over with already.   Why don’t you guys cancel home delivery, sell the building, and cut staff to the bone.  The drip drip of PD budget cuts is fun to watch, of course, but it can’t be fun for the people in the building with families to support.  And it certainly doesn’t indicate that PD management is taking any of this mess seriously enough.

Renting parking spaces?  What next, street vending?
