Leon Panetta at CIA – I like it.
Whether or not Barack purposely didn’t tell Dianne Feinstein about his choice of Leon Panetta to head the CIA, or it was an afterthought, the choice is brilliant. I saw former CIA guy Michael Scheuer on teevee positively squealing like a stuck pig about it.
“The agency will feel they are trading a silk purse for a pig’s ear by getting rid of Hayden for Panetta,” said Michael Scheuer, a former CIA officer who once led the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
Anything that makes “the agency” this upset has to be good. If anything has been learned about the CIA in the last 8 years, it is that they need to be made upset. Silk purse and all.
As a former Clinonista, I’ve watched Panetta pretty closely over the years, and find him to be one of the most politically smart, adept, and goal driven people in recent politics. Panetta is the kind of guy who will take direction from Barack, and make that direction happen. Very similar to Rahm.
Good pick.
