VIDEO: McCain-Palin Mob Part 2 – Woman’s child says of Barack “you need gloves to touch him”

Thu, Oct 9, 2008

Media, Politics

UPDATE – The reason I ask the African-American why he’s voting for McCain is that polling shows that ZERO percent of African Americans in Ohio are voting for McCain. So when you find one African-American supporting McCain, it’s news. That’s why I asked. Part 1 of The McCain Palin Mob in Strongsville, Ohio is here.  Part 2 below.  If you want to support my efforts with a tip, hit the tip jar.

This video includes a family who believes Barack Obama is a terrorist.  They brought an Obama doll, to show he’s a “puppet”, and when asked why, their small child says “you need gloves to touch him”. Bonus footage of 2 closeted gays – see if you can tell which ones!

Bottom line – I have never seen such a dangerous group of people at a presidential rally, so willing to announce their views to a guy holding a camera, and so transparently up to no good.  These people are very easily incited, as we have seen, and they need to be exposed.

In particular, a woman, who teaches her own child, that the next president of the United States is so vile that “you need gloves to touch him” needs to be put on video, and see how her views look in the light of day.  I don’t know how anyone can teach their own child this level of hate.

I really wonder how these people will react when they have to stand at attention, salute, and accept Barack Obama as our president.  Because Barack Obama will be the next president.  And these people’s small little worlds will be very different when that happens.

This webcast basically puts into a visual what the Pew Institute has been saying about Republicans. They are the most uneducated group of voters.
They will believe anything you tell them.
    Stupid.
I wish you would have asked these people these questions:
Ask them if they found out that Michelle Obama had stole Prescription medications from a charitible foundation, what would they think….then tell them it was Cindy McCain….
Ask them if they know who Chalabi is and John McCain’s support for him….
Ask them if one of the candidates spouses joined a political party which ideal was to seceed from the United States, how would they feel about aht person? Then tell them that is Todd Palin and Sarah Palin.
Ask them if they know how to think for themselves…..
But we know the answer to that question….

  2. z Says:

These people know what they are saying is b.s. yet they say it anyway. To them the Democratic process is just a sporting event where they get to root for their team. They have absolutely no concern for how their actions create the economic conditions their state is currently suffering. They deserve what they get. 60 years ago these people would be out lynching.

  3. E Says:

I attended the first presidential debate. The McCain supporters were just like this and worse. One of the visibility walks I participated in ended with a group of almost vicious McCain signwavers waiting for us and our “Change We Need” signs behind a building.

They don’t think. When presented with logic and reasonable questioning, they resort to shoulder shrugging, defense, and sarcasm.

    It’s really very, very scary.

  4. num1skeptic Says:

Props to you for these vids. This is “real” blogging, not just aggregating content. We need MUCH more of this sort of thing. Ugliness can thrive when not exposed. When exposed, it tends to whither. Again, thank you.

  5. Warm Apple Pie Says:

Sure, Republicans are dumb and the liberal videographer of the “Mob” has an immense axe to grind. C’mon – you had certain folks being absolutely lucid in their response to the “you think Obama is a terrorist” lead-in, responding “no” and leaning on his association with Ayers (I’m not saying its a valid logical end, but reflects logical processes at work from those “dumb” Republicans), yet you keep plugging away looking for worthy clips for predetermined ends.

I look to my left. I look to my right. All I see are demagogues.

  6. andy Says:

You probably already know this but part 1 is on the Huffington Post.

    October 9, 2008
    ============
Gallup Poll Daily Tracking: Obama 52% McCain 41%

Swing States: Obama 157 McCain 11
    Solid Blue States: Obama 153
    Solid Red States: McCain 139
    Leading Blue States: Obama 54
    Leading Red States: McCain 24

Electoral Votes: Obama 364 McCain 174

This must hurt to the fear mongers (McCain/Palin) and ignorant racist crowd.

    Obama/Biden 2008-2012

  8. writechicpress Says:

What a lovely mob. That child’s voice coming through was chilling. “You need gloves to touch him.” What have the parents said to elicit that.

  9. Sam Says:

Maybe this is blogging, but it’s certainly not good journalism. Badgering people with questions before they’ve had a chance to answer, asking the same question over and over to see if their answers change?

You present yourself as condescending and obnoxious throughout both these videos. If these are the kind of liberals that conservatives are used to dealing with, it’s no wonder that they believe the lies that Fox News spreads about us.

Choose to inform, not to insult. Until more liberals like myself, my friends, and Senators Obama and Biden choose to stretch out the olive branch instead of the stick, Obama’s message is lost and the country will continue the way it has for the past eight years.

It’s called basic human respect. Too many of us have forgotten what it means.

  10. Sam Says:

Excuse me, there was an omission in my last post. It should read:

Choose to inform, not to insult. Until more liberals like myself, my friends, and Senators Obama and Biden have done, choose to stretch out the olive branch instead of the stick, Obama’s message is lost and the country will continue the way it has for the past eight years.

Also, please note that I’m not trying to excuse the behavior of the blond woman in the first video. Just stating that I don’t believe pressuring people into saying that they think “Obama is a terrorist” is productive or newsworthy.

  11. Franklin Says:

Great videos. It’s never wise to underestimate how effective repeating a lie – or at best a half-truth – is.

  12. Michelle Says:

Great work! This video is very insightful and gives a candid view of people’s narrowmindedness. I commend you for having the guts to enter into McCain’s den of lions. I was saddened but not surprised by the apparent hatred and uneducation of the people interviewed.

It is clear in this random sampling that some of McCain’s demographics is stuck in the past. It is also clear that both McCain and Palin’s remarks to raise the question of “character and judgment” (yeah right)is unpatriotic and unpresidential. This type of pandering to voters’ emotions is divisive. The “he’s not like us” statement by Palin and standing by when there is a shout from the crowd exclaiming “kill him!” or “terrorist” or “treason” in reference to Obama needs to be admonished. This is becoming a win at all cost mission for McCain. Take a look for yourself at how the McCain campaign has handled their new pursuit of Obama over the past several days. It’s unfortunate that the McCain campaign is taking this road considering that BOTH of them have been in dealings and relationships in the past and present that have been questionable.

Bottom line…to incite a group of people with rhetoric that underlines the question of race or patriotism is unjustifiable. I do feel that it is okay to raise doubt by questioning a candidate’s character, but I also feel that there is a wrong way to do it and a right way to do it. Whoever the messenger is in front of the crowd has to be responsible and use responsible language, especially when speaking to the demographic that Palin and McCain have been courting.

Both candidates want to win, but at what cost? Some still don’t know that we are the UNITED states and this country was built on the backs of more than one race.

  13. Krumbz Says:

    Dear Blogger/Cameraman,

I’m not even kidding when I say this… you’re my hero bro. Seriously please continue exposing these people… but becareful out there. There is a tension mounting and building over on the Conservative side. These people if poked enough WILL become violent.

Regardless you are doing an excellent job exposing these people and their ignorant beliefs.

I think I might actually donate to the cause.

    Thanx man!

  14. an alaskan Says:

What a sad reflection on Americans. Thanks for being “out there”. Keep up the good (if not disturbing) work.

  15. Mark Says:

Props to you for bringing McCain/Palin mobs to the light of day– Americans need to see the hate that McPalin are bringing out of the woodwork. I fear for your safety around these hate-filled people, especially after their inflammatory comments about press and violence inciting statements.

  16. Michael Says:

I would run away to another country, but I’m sure every one has people like this.

  17. M Says:

I agree — please sell your camera and donate the money to Obama. You’ll be doing a HELL of a lot more good.

  18. Adam Bee Says:

Give me a break. These videos are ignorant and they make the rest of us Obama supporters look awful.

The questions are as glib and loaded as the responses. Isn’t it a little threatening to ask someone her first and last name, then stick the video on YouTube? And what about all the people who asked not to be videotaped?

Pretty much everyone who sees this guy knows what he’s up to. The videotaper clearly doesn’t want a reasonable discussion. He’s just got an agenda to push, just looking for sound bites. Why should we be outraged that that’s what he gets?

I don’t look forward to running into a conservative copycat of this idiot next time I go to a liberal rally. And of course the potential for blackmail and invitation to physical violence are truly chilling. I sure as hell don’t want anyone posting my first and last name on YouTube. Why not post this lady’s address along with it?

This demeans our politics almost as much as this “Hussein” crap, and we as forward-thinking liberals should reject it. Nasty stuff.

    Sam
You sound like a foolish numbskull…any and all of those people could of just used there brains and said “no comment”…”please leave me alone”(like one gentlemen did)…”no thank you” or simply NOTHING!!
But NO, they wanted to enlighten the world with their wisdom and rational opinion!!

  21. marilynjean Says:

Most importantly, Sarah look fabulous in black. I just wish she would have worn her hair UP.

  22. dablyputs Says:

That woman’s child could have been taught that you need gloves to touch the doll of barak because it will become a collector’s item and they want to keep it mint. That’s whay she is holding it by the box perhaps? I thought I heard “you need gloves to touch it” not “you need gloves to touch him”. Other than that, nice work.

  23. GA4OBAMA Says:

thank you! for all those you live in fairyland and think that racism is dead think again. the bigots are out there. when given the forum to express their hate, they feel comfortable and open up. mccain is playing with fire with these people. He thinks that they can be controlled. he has lost all honor and dignity in using these despicable ploys in order to win an election. it’s not country first. it’s win first. is he this willing to discuss palin’s terrorist activities with the aip? talk about unpatriotic.

  24. Cory Walker Says:

I agree completely with Adam Bee, these videos are not helpful.

“Do you think he is a terrorist?” then leading into “Then why did he stand by him in the debate?” is only provoking and causes a defensive answer.

I would like to see a video of people at both left and right rallies asked “Why does the other candidate scare you?”

  25. F. Douglas Says:

Oh…Oh…I am sick to my stomach and sick at heart.
What has happened to this country?
If these people only knew who McCain really is and where he came from and who helped him get to where he is today, they would not be so ready to embrace his VP choice.
    These two videos are frightening!
Thank you for making them…I thnk.

  26. Ryan Says:

God help us if McCain gets elected.

    These people are nuts…

  27. Mr Henry Bemis Says:

yo just thought i’d tell you that you’re worse than the idiots you’re mocking.

    just a big ol douchebag

  28. Janet Says:

    Sam,

I read your post & I agree this isn’t journalism. But, I think we are so used to hearing the ‘nice’ or ‘correct’ questions & follow up questions, that we forget that someone should also ask the hard & dirty ones. Mainstream journalism isn’t doing the trick lately it seems. I think we have to confront this stuff head on & with a little bit of fight in us. These people have every opportunity to walk away or be quiet- the thing is, they don’t want to. Furthermore, when a person’s viewpoint isn’t challenged, they never think about the other side. I know the people of this town in Ohio went home furious with blogger interrupted and talking about what people said and did to defend McCain. One of them, at least one of them, is bound to reflect on what they said or what they heard- if only because they know they may be on tape. Who knows…

Journalism, no- but a worthy format for spreading the word on the realities of this campaign, our nation & the blatant disregard for truth…absolutely.

  29. ans Says:

These people are complete idiots, but you’re not a very intelligent questioner.

  30. Allan Says:

I have news for you, there were more than two closet cases there…of both sexes…

  31. Mike Says:

The pro-McCain folks are proud to be racist and ignorant, and they wear it like a badge of honor. It’s amazing, and terribly, terribly sad. Their anger and hatred permeates everything they say.

  32. burned Says:

they are racists, hiding that fact by saying he is a terrorist.

they know they are lying, but cant say their true feelings when on camera.

The boy saying you need ‘gloves to touch him’ proves it, since kids dont yet have the foresight to know what (or when) to lie about

  33. Ken Says:

Great work! Keep it up. Suggestion: You do not even need to ask leading questions. Just let them express themselves and that will be funny enough.

  34. rich Says:

yuck, those mccain supporters from ohio sure are ugly and stupid and white. They’re racists! But let’s be honest, does supporting mccain make you a stupid, ugly white racist or does living in ohio? I propose the latter. Go to a mccain rally in Orange or San Diego County and get a completely different picture. For that matter go interview Obama rally-goers in New Orleans, I’ll bet what you’ll see are a bunch of stupid ugly black people saying completely ignorant things.

Just what is this video supposed to prove? It’s certainly not journalism.

  35. Ken Says:

Hmm, Obama has Arab ties but she cannot name one.

I will name one. House of Bush is BFF with the House of Saud. Thirty years and counting.

Saudi Arabia: Home of 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers, home of brutal dictators, deny rights of women and minorities, funds radical Wahabism, but #2 importer of oil to US.

  36. Suzanne Says:

This is why we know inbreeding is alive and well! The women with the doll need to find a rubber room. (and a hair dresser) This is why we need to fix, no child left behind. All these people got passed through.

This is so sad. If Obama was white and had that name this would be over!

  37. Ben Says:

I would like to ask people next time… isn’t Christian to expect people to repent and reform… is it Christian to keep describing Bill Ayers as terrorist despite all the good he did in recent years…
And also what they think of Sarah’s Alaska independence party affiliation

  38. Fool Disclosure Says:

If you slowed down and were a little more respectful to these people, they’d tell you things that would make your camera lens melt. You’re taking the easy route here.

  39. Lisa Says:

I would have loved it if you asked a few more questions. The repetition though was insightful. It was disturbing that these people would lie, and would rather look dumb and ignorant, than to answer truthfully. It is these individuals who the McCain slanderous ads are directed at. It is such a sad day in this world that in 2008 there is so much hatred and distrust based on race and religion. That comment from the kids says it all – he was taught to be a little racist. Just pathetic. I would love it if you would get back out there and ask some other questions. Although I doubt that any question would lead to a single insightful response from these kool-aid drinkers.

  40. Miranda Says:

Those racist white hicks in Ohio are GROSS! Thanks for posting your video! Those disgusting, ignorant trailer dwellers are exactly why I don’t visit flyover states! They are the ultimate white trash! Yuck!

  41. Scott Says:

Oh Gross!!!! Overweight, ignorant, uneducated, white trailer trash from Ohio alert!

  42. Jake Says:

I wish you weren’t so aggressive with your questioning. The footage is interesting, but I can’t link to it because it looks like you’re leading these people.

  43. a Says:

This interviewer can’t be helping. He seems to be rudely asking mostly unrelated questions, and seems to find it notable that some of those he interviewed didn’t want to be filmed.

  44. Wes Says:

Great post man. keep up the good work. This campaign is showing two faces of America. On one side we see people of all races and backgrounds supporting a Black man for president. On the other side we see a bunch of ignorant and racist people so scared that they will do anything to stop this from happening. What are these people teaching their kids? They should be ashamed.

    http://www.techNmore.com

  45. EH Says:

You talk to such interesting-seeming people, but you only ask them two, very boring questions.

  46. Jon Says:

    Sir,

I agree with your position and was just talking with my brother about the horrible vocally, proudly ignorant that seem to be dividing our country. However, I think your point would have been illustrated far more clearly if you had been less of a dick. When someone asks not to be filmed, that does NOT mean they are saying Obama is a terrorist, that means you should stop filming them. A black man has just as much right to vote for McCain as anyone. The fact that he isn’t voting based on race is to his credit, why try and dumb down the debate with your justification for why you asked him? The thing about the willfully ignorant is that they most often WANT their voices to be heard, so my advice would be to talk to them and be respectful to those who don’t wish to speak with you.

  47. Venema Says:

I’m a European, and looking at the circus you call “elections” I can only conclude that BOTH sides are ignorant dumbasses. You elect a president because he’s a self-proclaimed “war hero”, or you elect a president because he’s black. That’s all. You don’t give a shit about what the next president is going to lead your country into, since you can’t even oversee the consequences. You’re simply too stupid. Must be the result of your ‘founding fathers’ that had to run from other parts of the world simply because they were too incompetent to make it in their own countries. And you all inherited that rock-bottom IQ.

I mean… look at the president you have now… That joker wouldn’t even be intelligent enough to be delivering the mail in my country.

  48. Venema Says:

Oh and I so agree with Jon, commenting on the black man that was asked why he didn’t vote for Obama. This shows that the “interviewer” is just as stupid, implying that “a black guy should vote the black guy”. Your ignorance is beyond help.

  49. Marge Says:

~ When I watched this video, I thought about who these people are. They are our neighbors, our teachers, health care providers, customer service reps….ect…and a tear fell from my eye. I am deeply saddened by the ignorance prevailing in my own neighborhood. Even shocked.

  50. Evan Says:

This is ridiculous. Speaking as a GOP member, I can’t say that I’m not embarrassed by the responses of the vast majority of these people, yet this is exactly the type of bias that gives both parties bad names in the media. I know for a fact that there are more intelligent voters in my party, and I resent that this is how we’re portrayed.

How would people react if I badgered them with questions like “Why do you support killing babies?” or “Why does your party hate God?”

Both of the afore mentioned questions are equally as ridiculous and unfounded, yet I’m sure that I could elicit some tasty sound bites to post on a blog. However, people such as the idiot that made this film would probably just stereotype it as another ignorant move by a fundamentalist of the Southern Christian Right.

This video serves as nothing but a perfect example of why politicking has continued further into its downward spiral. No one cares to discuss the rational voters. Just as we’ve become a society obsessed with the latest murder on the news, reality T.V. shows, and compilations of “World’s Wildest Police Videos”, we’ve turned the American political institution into the newest and best source for gaffes, bloopers, and “gotcha” sound bites that obscure any real issues.

For the record, Obama is not a terrorist, he doesn’t hate white people, and his association with Reverend White has nothing to do with how he would lead this country. Similarly, McCain is not going to drop dead in office, and his “that one” comment was blown way out of proportion.

At the risk of sounding too GOP for you guys and gals, maybe its not gay marriage that will lead to the depredation of America’s moral fiber… Instead it might just be YouTube that has evolved into the newest Horseman of the Apocalypse.

  51. Doug H. (Fausto no more) Says:

I’m sensing a lot of concern in this thread…

  52. Kari Says:

    “She’s a woman!”

    [face_palm]

  53. Elizabeth Says:

I truly think you could find similarly inarticulate and small-minded Obama supporters.

I say this as an Obama supporter.

  54. Brady Maxwell Says:

The really frightening thing about this videos is that these fundamentalist extremists Christians are our neighbors and coworkers. They looks like anyone else but their hearts are black and their minds are filled with hate and ignorance. Its really very scary. I can not imagine how the cameraman kept his calm. I personally would want to slap the shit out of some of these people while screaming “Wake Up!” I know it wouldn’t help them but it sure would make me feel better.

  55. Dimi Says:

Errr. Just as a side note – you don’t think it’s possible the kid was talking about the puppet?

  56. Mac G Says:

Keep up the Great Work. Do not let the haters get to you because the more haters means you are getting to the online McCain trolls.

  57. vi Says:

Angry, white, ignorant, overweight racists, still living in the Middle Ages when the Earth was flat.

  58. Jacquie Says:

I just attended an Obama Rally and did not hear or see any references to McCain or Palin anywhere! I just realized this. We were there only to support Obama, look to the future and discuss the issues. No hate, no fear no ill will. I felt like I was surrounded by family. The Hate surrounding the McCain/Palin Rally came through my computer screen and filled my office. I need to go take a shower now! Great Clip!

  59. Southern Gent Says:

Personally, I wouldn’t vote for either! Two Bush President’s and a Clinton. Two wrong’s do not make a right. Our Government has lost sight of itself and our country has too. One President with veto power, and 13 represnatives to pass laws. Think of the financial cutbacks that would do some good for our country, and can be applied to feeding the hungry or education here in the United States. The war, is religeon based, and is doing exactly what the Taliban and terrorist networks are trying to achieve. Bankrupt America; we did not need the war to put ourselves in that situation, our government and corporations are doing a good job of this all by themselves. “We the people, by the people, for the people” What have we the people done? This is a democratic society, so we do not all share the same beliefs however; we all share the same beliefs that our country was founded on. Times have changed and indeed we all need God in our lives more and more each day. The Ten Commandments, The Constitution of the United States of America, and The Bill of Rights, have all been turned into loopholes so that we can destroy our own country? The problem’s that our country and this nation are facing are not Democrat or Republican. These are American born problems and need to be taken care of in America. You as an individual have your own personal beliefs and no one can make you do something that you do not want or feel is the right thing to do. If I gave you a million dollars could I persuade you to do differently and I told you that you have to do something in return for my best interest; what would you do? Did our forefather’s establish the laws of our country in this manner? Do you think that they took pride in saying “The Pledge of Allegiance?” or singing our National Anthem? Do you cross your heart or salute? There is one God, one creator and one America. I personally vote for the Independent party, where this party has come together from both sides, Democrat and Republican to be the intermediary choice. When two kids are fighting there needs to be an adult to stabilize and resolve the conflict. No race, no color, just a decision that “We the People” need to make. What are you truly basing your decision’s on? Have you openly and honestly put the shoe on the other foot? Are both parties honestly correct in creating a change that’s best for the people? I see some bad things on the Horizon for our country. We may like it or not end up with our own troops fighting to reagain our own country on this soil, does this sound familiar? It is in our history and you know what they say “history repeats itself.” Are we the people going to continue to let this happen? Is true justice for our nation and our people going to continue to be blind? What are other countries views on America? It doesn’t matter you say; sometimes we all need to look from the outside in to regain a true sense of who we are. This is- The United States of America; but yet we split ourselves for governing the country. We the people need to look and care for our nation. This Campaign has a lot riding on it, the future of America.

  60. Jacquie Says:

Evan I am a left leaning independent female and I agree wholeheartedly with your very intelligent comment. The issues that affect us are what we need to focus on. Playing to the “dumbed down” mentality of this country may sound like a good idea but I doubt it gets people off their fat butts to vote.

  61. HistoryBuff Says:

I appreciate what you’re trying to do, but I think it would be more constructive if you asked a question less extreme than “Do you think Barack Obama is a terrorist?” The gotcha game played with such a polarizing question does your mission a disservice. Sure, there must be some whackos out there who believe Obama’s a terrorist, and it’s interesting to find more than a few of them in this video, but the real problem is all the people who won’t vote for Barack because of opinions far less extreme. The “I know Sarah better than I know Obama” meme is much more popular and to the point, and I think yields your most important results. Your interviews point out the obvious — that these folks have known Obama much longer, but don’t feel as comfortable with him — and almost get down to the issue at the heart of it all: Obama is black. These white folks can’t “know” a black person, any black person, the same way they know white people. They are the last old guard of American down-home racism. All their double talk about leadership and experience and identifying is code — look at their smirks — for what they don’t even dare to say to each other: We’re not gonna vote for a black man. The idiot wing of the Republican Party is the Know-Nothing Party of our time, a resurgence of the phenomenon of party based on racial / nativist identity politics. They fear intelligence, education, competition, diversity, internationalism: everything that threatens them with the knowledge of how helpless they are in an information-based, globalized, no-longer-white-run world. They could go forward instead of backwards, but that’s scary, and any impulses they have to take a chance on the truth, on the future, on reality are squelched by the screaming fear machine of hate radio, FOX “News” and the GOP intolerance industry. God help us all if there are enough of them to vote McCain in — or if Diebold makes the voting machines say they are. Anyone who reads this and wants to see Obama elected, PLEASE volunteer (go to barackobama.com or moveon.org) and help get out the vote. EVERYTHING depends on it.

  62. sisyphus Says:

So you found mouth-breathers in a crowd of McCain/Palin supporters. You don’t think you could find equally ignorant yo-yos in a crowd of Obama/Biden supporters?

I’ll concede it might be more work to find goofballs like this at a Democratic rally, but it still isn’t clear to me what you’re trying to prove.

Are you possibly trying to suggest that the democratic (small d)process is flawed by extending the vote to the great unwashed? I propose that even if you are intellectually and morally superior to these people (which I don’t dispute), they know when they’re being insulted and they don’t like it. I’d rather have their poorly informed, ignorant votes support Obama. Hell, they’re stupid; how hard should it be to persuade them?

  63. Southern Gent Says:

If Black American’s are not going to vote for a Black man, then why are the radio stations of mostly the black population calling ” all to vote on a fellow brother?” “Help a Brother get the Presidency”. There actually has been more bashing from the Democratic Party than the Republican party. Does this make either right? The more either party bashes each other makes people not want to vote, it just shows ignorance and childish behavior. Do you actually support this behavior by your candidate? I am not looking forward to the outcome, because either way; our country is in trouble if either get elected. It seems that even the comments on this blog about the video are also racist, even by the highly educated populus. The scales of justice are held in the middle. Right and Left wing, is one side or the other; does not balance out. It is time for America to get off the playground teeter totter and find the balance it so desperately needs. When was the last time an Independent candidate won the Presidency? Most have been Democrat or Repulican. They seek the balance, Republican and Democrats just want it their way. What is it that America really needs? To be Americans, from the United States? (United)?

  64. slapaham Says:

great opportunity wasted by obnoxious interviewer’s questions. Leaves me pissed off at both the interviewer and the interviewees. I applaud those featured in the video who nicely ask the guy to leave them alone — then more firmly as snarky camerman continues to keep camera shoved in their face.

  65. chad Says:

Not sure where to start. I’m really uncomfortable after watching these videos and reading the comments, but I’m not sure whether the source of the discomfort is primarily some of the rally attendees’ belligerently ignorant comments, primarily the interviewer’s pointlessly confrontational style, or primarily the comments in this thread that simply mirror the worst behavior of the people at the rally. I am certain, though, that all three made me squirm a little.

The dehumanizing of political opponents on both sides is the truly alarming aspect of this for me: it’s a pretty short trip from “they’re not like us” to “they don’t deserve the same rights as us” to far worse…

I am an Obama supporter, and politically generally just left of Dennis Kucinich, but I see human beings in these videos. People with complicated lives and unique personal histories. Some display real dignity, and some, real ugliness…but all very human. All like us.

  66. Evan Says:

Thank you Jacquie. Its nice to know that common ground can be found despite party lines. Its odd how these party lines only become an itch that needs scratching every four years. We unite as Americans 3/4 of the time, but during that one year of elections the lines seem to become too think to bear. The vast majority of Americans can accept issues of race, religion, and ethnicity without conflict during the off years, yet lines become drawn during election years.

Its pretty sad that I (a white Christian male living in the South) can drink a beer with a black man on any given night, sit by a Muslim in a college classroom every day, without either of us feeling that we need to justify my race or religion; yet I have to defend my political beliefs and listen to comments like those in this video to fellow Americans.

It comes down to the simple fact that those wishing to advocate a point without rational basis will attempt to seek out and exploit the radical minority of any movement to which they are opposed. Not all Republicans are ignorant bigots, not all Muslims are terrorists, not all blacks are out to upset the “white man”.

Stooping so low as to advertise the views of an ignorant few as the views of the larger whole greatly damages any cause.

McCain is no more likely to listen to the views of these idiots as Obama is likely to listen to the Black Panthers.

  68. shitalphin Says:

this fellow keeps on asking people when they heard of Obama versus Palin, does this fellow realize that on is a Presidential candidate and the other a Vice-presidential candidate?????

  69. Brandon Says:

It’s a common response to look at this and say, “Don’t forget about the other side. Loony lefties are probably just as ignorantly vocal at the Obama-Biden rallies.” That is fine in theory, very rational indeed. HOWEVER: I have personally yet to find online video of this purported other side of crazy…if anyone can post a link to such a document it would be greatly appreciated.

  70. Mb8078 Says:

“I wish you weren’t so aggressive with your questioning. The footage is interesting, but I can’t link to it because it looks like you’re leading these people.”

I’m with Jake-all you had to do was ask any of these people for the concrete reasons why they are for McCain and opposed to Obama and then hold up the mic-their ignorance (The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed) and thinly disguised racism would have come through loud and clear.

    Frightening, and very sad……

  71. AllanF Says:

THank you for amazing work…A true American…

  72. Ian Says:

I thought you were a little over the top with your questions, but my jaw really dropped when you asked “You’re an African-American, why aren’t you voting for Obama?” Are you kidding me? McCain picked Palin in hopes that women would vote with their vaginas, but I hoped our side was a little above that. How can you not see how incredibly offensive and racist that is?

  73. kegbot1 Says:

Actually I think the question was right on point. I’ve had to deal with otherwise decent people in my little Ohio town who swear up and down that Obama is a Muslim and is some kind of Manchurian Candidate sent out to destroy America. And no amount of reasoning or documentation can sway them.

And then last night McCain had to (finally) take away the microphone from some nutbar who was saying Obama was an “Arab.” She’s so stupid she couldn’t even get the smear right!

Nothing unfair about this at all. Simply catching right wingers in their natural habitat with all their bigotry and small mindedness on full display. Great work.

  74. lmao Says:

I am african american and I was really glad to see you ask the african american guy why he was voting for McCain. If I were there I would have gone a lot further than you did. The unfortunate truth though, is no matter how much Republicans like to complain about affirmative action, being a black republican is the ULTIMATE form of affirmative action. Just look at Alan Keyes. The guy is totally off his rocker yet he keeps getting people to pay him just to show his face and he’s made a career out of running for various offices around the country. He keeps losing yet somehow they still keep throwing money at him and cheering him. Being a black republican is an easy ticket to the top.

  75. pz Says:

It’s sad to know that the people of Strongsville are so blindly led. I almost came to the rally as a protester, but couldn’t find others to come with me, or any organization that was going as a group. I have tshirts on my website that say, “Sarah Palin Hates Polar Bears”, check them out.

  76. why do i hate america Says:

This is terrible journalism. When someone says they don’t want to be videotaped their image should not the be uploaded to the web. You might detest these plebs but there are basic standards of integrity that should guide those who use video as a means of communicating. These pieces simply don’t meet those standards. This is sub fox news territory and obama would be embarassed to have half wits like this guy on his side.

  77. M Says:

Republicans to me different than fundamentalist people they want to fight in this world. Reupubs have made this country target of so many angry people in this world. Their ideology is so myopic and selfish that they really belong in their own country somewhere where they can fight it out with al-qeada or whoever… and us “liberals” can leave in peace. Most repubs can’t think for themselves, look at stupid morons on fox… very frustrated!! I came to this country thinking it was very progressive and all that…. thank god for liberals in this country, they are sooo progressive.

  78. Cathy H Says:

I JUST WATCHED THE SECOND VIDEO ON THE MCCAIN/PALIN MOB..UNBELIEVABLE! THESE PEOPLE ARE SOOO IGNORANT. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL NOV 5TH, WOULD LOVE TO GO TO THAT TOWN AND WATCH THEM CRY….PEOPLE LIKE THAT WHO ARE SO BLATANTLY IGNORANT SHOULD NOT EVEN BE ALLOWED TO VOTE! I AM WHITE, AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THE BACKWOODS ATTITUDE OF SOME OF THESE PEOPLE–GO OBAMA!!! OUR NEXT PRESIDENT, READ IT AND WEEP ON NOV 5TH YOU FOOLS! YOU ARE BLINDLY LED WHERE NO PERSON SHOULD GO!!!! THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICANS WILL HAVE THEIR VOICE SOON.

  79. Abu Usamah Says:

IS this really America? You betcha folks! And yes unfortunately McCain will win BIG, don’t believe the POLLS the silent MAJORITY will speak on NOV 4.

Look this people KNOW this stuff is ALL lies they don’t truly believe the charges against Obama. They are just willing to look stupid and support the American privilege they enjoy.

The “silent majority” on the other hand still are going to support the privilege they enjoy they just don’t want to look stupid doing so.

McCain and the rest of Republican party have just flip-floped on all of their small-government-free-market-fiscal-conservatism-personal-respondsibility platform yet still enjoy rabid support.

The Republican montra is We are Capitalists with gains for the wealthly but Socialists with the losses of the wealthy — LOL they have no shame

The national debt, the budget deficit and size of government not to mention the largest corporate welfare socialistic programs in the history have been created and all they can hang their hat on is that Obama is a terrorist.

Well, my friend, I say McCain is a coward, because no American should stand with a terrorist and if McCain beleives Obama is a terrorist and STILL stands on stage with him smiling at him, shaking his hand and hugging him, then McCain is a coward.

And if an American allows a fellow American allows to be called a terrorist when he doesn’t believe it, then he is still a coward without moral courage to standup and put country above an election

And to think he’s going to be our next president, this election is a joke. Bush has now declared North Korea is no longer evil and terrorist nation, I guess now with the stroke of Bush’s pen, President McCain can now sit with Kim without preconditions, what a difference a day makes

  80. Cathy H Says:

I just saw the 2nd video of the McCain/Palin mob. How much more ignorant could these people get? They should not even be allowed to vote. I hope there is a video of them on Nov 5th! America will vote, and I am sure that OBAMA will win the election!!! GO OBAMA!!! Thank God, we have come a long way and this “race”-no pun intended will not be determined by the color of ones skin. Working class will have a chance with OBAMA. GO OBAMA!!!!!

  82. Winfield Says:

When any of you achieve the age of 30, own your own homes and have kids to put through school, perhaps then you will understand why Obama was such a threat to our very way of life. I won’t get in to a debate regarding why such a noob to politics is a danger to national security, as that will surely incite a flame war. Just know that all of us that are actually in the mainstream, between 35-55 years old, understand your naivete as some of us were there once too. You’ll get it someday, and you will start caring for yourselves, your families and friends first; those that choose to not work and milk the welfare state for all it’s worth, second–if at all.

  83. Michelle Says:

Hmmm…So, I am over 30 but in the age range mentioned. I have traveled, owned multiple homes, cars, 2 advanced degrees, children in private school, husband, and make a salary in the six-figure range. Your point is what? Threat? Hardly. You’re right. Your comment is a debate for another time.

It seems all that are reading the blog, do not read what other’s may have written. If you can not see that there is a better answer than the two majority parties, and you believe that either side is right, then we are indeed are in a world of hurt. This hurt is much worse than either party seems to see. Ok, this is actually quite simple; a nation divided. Why? What is it that all American’s want?
All I can say is look past this stupid video, and the narrow minds on both sides of this. If you can side with ether one; then when the votes are tallied and either Obama or McCain win four years to eight years later and we are in worse shape; then you only have yourselves to blame. Don’t turn around and say, well my candidate was supposed to do this but….he couldn’t do this because of the other party overuled the bill or bills regarding half sided decision. My candidate did do some good and we can overlook the bad things because he really did try. Is is really alright to make excuses? Do you like it when other’s make excuses when you apparently see different? Our nation should not be in the spolight, having a pity party or saying that nothing is wrong when there is. Writing totally correct paragraphs or punctuated sentences with the proper tense is not the important message. I am not trading or excusing one ignorance for the other. This is just a blog. However the true message of an American by birth is. I am just tired of seeing both parties screw our nation up, and screw the American public regardless of Republican or Democrat. I just want to get the voice back to the people and for the people. Be open, and look at the big picture, past Republican and Democrat. Look at this picture as just who you are; an American. In the Lord Jesus Crist’s name, I do pray for us all. May God be with you and many blessings for those who truly believe in righteousness for all humanity; as well as out nation.

  86. Jimmy Says:

Let me make myself clear: I am voting for Barack Obama.

I don’t think the person making the video succeeded in anything besides annoying republicans, and giving them ammo against democrats. I agree with democrats politically, but I can’t stand talking to some of them. The really bad ones are condescending and don’t really know what they are talking about. This guy asked every single person if they thought Obama was a terrorist, and only 1 person, in these two videos, said straight up “Obama’s a terrorist.” Others realized this guy was putting words in their mouth, and stopped in their tracks. I appreciate what he was trying to do, but I all he did was give republicans more reason to dismiss democrats. I started to hate this guy, and I agree with his views!

  87. Winfield Says:

MICHELLE: I have to admit that I envy you. I really wish that I could have afforded getting not only my B.A. but “Two Advanced Degrees” and then travelled all over the world at my own expense like you have. I’m not really sure how you did it, but maybe the Burger King that you worked at in high school paid more than mine. What countries did you see? Could you tell me about them? Because I work for a living and have a wife and kids to take care of so I worry about my next mortgage payment and not what the weather is like in Timbuktu. Please share, sweetheart.

  88. Rhubarb Koznowski Says:

I have not viewed the video. I got so caught up in the comments that my interest in the various opinions became overwhelmingly entertaining. We have become a nation of bigots, unable or unwilling to act as Americans, not Republicans or Democrats. Unless we are willing to act within the two-party system, our vote is meaningless. Actually, it seems pretty meaningless anyway…
Here are the words of a great American jurist.

“If there is no struggle, there is no
progress. Those who profess to favor
    freedom, and yet depreciate agitation,
are men who want crops without plowing
up the ground. They want rain without
thunder and lightning. They want the
ocean without the awful roar of its
many waters. This struggle may be
a moral one, or it may be a physical one,
or it may be moral and physical; but it
must be a struggle. Power concedes
nothing without a demand. It never did
    and it never will. “
    (1857) Frederick Douglass

Supreme Court judge. Black. Neither political party. American, and willing to fight for freedom and his rights. These are guaranteed by the Constitution, not granted. They are self-evident truths, not party platform. Soon, the time will come that they must be enforced.

Now I may go back and look at the video, just for laughs…

I am a 24 year old female living in Vancouver B.C. Canada. I am currently at university for art and entertainment business management. At 19 I worked for Acorn as a community organizer in Portland Oregon. I am so sad to see the media bully what is a grass roots/ not for profit organization. All they do is help low income families better there community by fighting city hall on basic community needs. For example cleaning up local parks that are being used as injection sites, having stop signs put in near schools as so local traffic doesn’t hit a child. I can’t believe how blind these people are. The entire world can see how uneducated and ill informed they are. I don’t mind if your the most right winged voter, just as long as your information makes sense. Do these people actually think that the McCain/Palin government will help them… (they will suck these people dry). There entire campaign has nothing that supports the average American. People hate on Canadians, but I have to tell you the couple extra tax’s I do pay make it so I don’t even have to worry about going to the hospital if I’m sick. there are so many things covered under our medical plan. they tell you, you want private health insurance, but they didn’t tell you your gonna be broke as a joke paying it off. good luck with bailing out the economy with all the extra money they think your gonna have. I think these people are angry and are lost.

And don’t for a second think that the American election doesn’t effect Me or my fellow Canadians. I don’t want you to drill into our national territories as so you can suck the earths blood. Eco systems should be left alone, because the more you mess with nature the more it’s gonna mess with us. No ones know how bad the ramifications will be, and what problem we will have created next.

i do agree that the line of questioning to the black man in the 2nd video was out of line, and improper. however, i do also get a sense that the man was feeling awkward and didnt really have a real response. i honestly do think that he must feel enormous pressure and that if he was to support obama/a black man/a terrorist (according to these people in ohio) he would probably have his house broken into, have hate crimes committed against him, and generally speaking not have any peace of mind. his life would be a living hell if he didnt just “fall in line” with the norms in that area.

  97. ketan Says:

might i also add that ANYONE who tries to defend or justify why these people say what they say or think what they think, you are FULL OF BULLSHIT. dont allow your political policies/issues cloud the rational judgment that you are all capable of making. don’t give me the “oh, well i bet if we were to go to an obama rally there would be a bunch of soundclips that mirror these”. give me a break! if/when you say that, you are not only acknowledging but accepting, if not encouraging the unfounded hatred and bigotry that these people are infested with. seriously, by all means, if you honestly believe that McCain?Palin is in your opinion the better candidate, then go out and vote for him. but DO NOT sit here and say that as an American, better yet, as a HUMAN BEING, that this stuff is not absolute SCUM. It should be INTOLERABLE, but yet it seems to be rampant and out in the open and quite comfortable. that means something that we’re (as in ALL of US) doing (or not doing, for that matter) is not right. not in the least bit.

Reply to Fox News: How true! This is the Superbowl of Politics!!! But if you are watching, you do not need any advertisements to get you to watch it. They put the money is advertising in the time slots and on the channels to draw voter’s away from their norm. I am pretty sure that sports and entertainment venues have higher ratings accumulative than this debate. Most Americans already feel that it doesn’t matter who we put into office; from the President down to corporate influence, the track record shows! Our country is in trouble, serious trouble. I don’t want my kids or my grandkids to pay for what our governing bodies have done in the last three decades. This is inevitable, true enough.Since our country has stretched to such a global market; what are the other countries doing to solidify the market? The same thing’s that America needs to do. Are these other countries; China, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan,Canada, The Saudi Emirates, Russia or South Korea assisting like they should to stop terrorism, or war? Are these countries concerned with putting money back into America’s economy? We have after all been soo concerned with helping all countries achieve peace. We have after all opened our country to illegal immigrants and migrant workers. What is Mexico and some of the other interested countries doing? Buying property, building businesses and companies so that they can create jobs; for who? Mexico, and Mexico’s expansion. China and these other countries have just followed suit. There is something that America will pay for how we have tried to take other countries for granted; utilizing their labor market and our corporate expansions. Lack of jobs for true Americans, lack of America to be self sufficient. We definately need to do more on our own soil. General Motors? Ford? We are killing our own country, our citizens, our job market, our economy at the cost of our soldiers lives to defend our country and a way of life that is disappearing. We can print only so much play money until it has to be backed up. We can only say our country’s economic situation is not in a recession and that we are just fine, so many times until it has to be backed up. There is only so much that our governing body can say or pass laws for the good of the people; only to do the opposite for: we the people. We give more to migrants in state funding programs, education, home, medical and jobs than we do for our own native citizens. We are not the United Countries of what was known as the United States of America; or are we? Do we actually have borders? What is N.A.F.T.A really doing? I know that it is making Mexico richer for sure. America has everything for you, just go get it, get your wealth and riches and come back home to Mexico to live a great life; or keep Mexico’s expansion going. Let’s keep giving away and selling America and our livelihoods to countries that do not share the same beliefs. In two hundred years will we actually have world peace? Will there actually be habitant’s? Or is the peace going to be from world destruction? Solidify our border’s, bring our troops home, bring our industry and corporations back home and kick out illegals. Concentrate solely on the rebuilding of America, and bring back the confidence of our people in our own country to do the right things. These are my own view’s and opinions, and are not necessarily the view’s of our majority American’s; however I have received the input from hundred’s that do agree in the direction that our country should be moving in.

  101. Daniel Says:

I dont get it. Is this video supposed to be used for the McCain Campaign? Because most of these people handled themselves very well for being pretty annoyed. Like it or not, your obama is friends with Ayers, who was definitely a terrorist (and to date still has nto apologized or remorsed over his actions). There is no denying that. So I really dont get what youre trying to accomplish with this video.

  102. Kat Says:

Wow! You’ve truly shown America how wonderfully proud you are of shoving a camera in anyone’s face, asking ignorant questions, and proving nothing while at it! Brilliant! Oscar winning performance! 2 thumbs up…way up! Next time, don’t shove a camera into people’s faces. Don’t ask the same ignorant questions over and over again. Don’t assume because a person is black they should vote for Obama, and likewise, if they’re white they’d vote for McCain. And come on, attempting to humiliate a parent in front of their children…really?!? That was class act! There are better ways to show your allegiance to a political view, then this! Whether or not anyone gave a legitimate answer to your “questions” is not the point. People don’t always articulate well when thrown, (unwillingly), in the line of a buffoon with a camera! What’s with not asking permission to tape someone first, or asking questions of them politely or in a somewhat civil manner?!?!? I’d like to see how you’d react to a similar, unexpected situation! After an initial attempt, you’d be sputtering, too! What’s fascinating to me is, I’m affiliated to neither side. I was raised in a very strong republican family, but have become more liberal as I’ve grown worldly. I’ve been on the fence for most of the race, and was becoming more and more entranced by Obama. The fascination, though, comes from how much I don’t want to be associated with a group that stoops to this kind of behavior to get a rise out of people. I’m not saying democrats are the only guilty party, but I’ve yet to see videos of democrats being bombarded with silly questions and then prized online like this. You’re attempt to show republicans as ignorant, only proved yours, not theirs! You do know that neither party is perfect, and that more then likely, we’ll be in the same boat in 4 years regardless of who’s elected! Besides, it truly isn’t the president, or the government that dictates our economy and our lives! It’s We the People who do! They just make a few rules, but we run the show!

    Silly, Silly man!

P.S. By the way, this was also a brilliant way to show the world how intelligent and civil we are! DIVIDED WE FALL!!!

I can’t believe these people are allowed to have children. It’s like the kkk all over again. I can’t believe the hate some voters have against Obama. John McCain never should have let it get that far. So sad that they are raising their children to be hateful and hate the same. So sad. God help us if McCain wins. Seriously doubt it though. He’s such an idiot.

  105. DEE Says:

We are too intelligent to fall for McCain and Palin’s tactics! There is too much at stake for us to let the Hate mongers in this country win, not this time! Do not become complacent or overconfident! Barack Obama CAN lose this election! Don’t worry about what anyone says! Don’t pay attention to the polls! People have had big leads in the polls and lost on Election Day! Just get out and VOTE! Don’t wait until the last minute! Don’t become overconfident! When you are VOTING there will be extremely long lines, but be determined and vigilant! Obama must win this election! Vote! VOTE! VOTE! The world is watching!

    OBAMA/BIDEN 08-12!
