My thoughts on the McCain-Palin mobs.

The fact that my videos of McCain-Palin supporters (here and here) are blowing up online tells me a lot.
First, the media should be ashamed of themselves for not covering this until now. The McCain-Palin supporters in my videos are not new, they are not exceptional, they are not hiding. This is who they are. It has been brewing for months, and not one mainstream media outlet has taken the time to expose them. Not one. And that is dangerous. If America is about to decide on its president based on this level of hate and ignorance, without a single question being asked as to why, then America is in for a rude awakening.
You could get video of these hateful and ignorant people in your sleep. Not just in Ohio, everywhere. Our country has been sleepwalking through this campaign as if none of this vitriol exists. Well, not only does it exist, it is rampant, and it is there for anyone with a camera to record. And these people are proud to be this hateful and ignorant on your camera.
Second, the McCain campaign has done nothing to dispel these fantasies. To the contrary, McCain and Palin themselves have been stoking it. That, too, is dangerous.
Third, it gives me that much more pride in my support for Barack Obama. This man takes a risk with his life every time he sets foot into the public eye. That is a kind of bravery that not even John McCain could muster.
Fourth, it tells me all I need to know about John McCain and Sarah Palin, that they are willing to accept and foment this kind of support. They are not patriots, they represent the worst stain this country’s history has ever produced. They are no different than an unrepentant segregationist shouting “states rights” in 1954.
And it will be a sublime joy to watch them lose this election.

I really beleived that these types of uneducated racists didn’t exist anymore. But you have shown that they do.

The ignorance and hatred at this rally that you’ve recorded is breathtaking and unfortunately this type of behavior has become common at McCain/Palin rallies. You are absolutely right that the mainstream media should be paying more attention to what is going on at these rallies. McCain (or should I say McKKKain?) and Palin are disgracefully whipping up race hatred and xenophobia with abandon and they should be called out on it.

More voices like yours need to shout from the rooftops. I have a personal connection to the media and utiilize every time these stories pop up that need attention over the standard infotainment. What if something violent happens at a rally-say a video blogger gets attacked by some drunken redneck in a camoflage cap and that starts off a firestorm across the country. Then what? Will the media sit back and ask themselves if, by shining a 50w light on these people’s faces they could have prevented it? Or will they take the initiative?

None of this is shocking. I’ve been a teacher for 12 years and have seen the rampant addiction to ignorance we feed in this country. Everything is a soundbite and clip…and that is the extent of these people’s knowledge. However, I would go on to state that there are individuals from the Obama camp that are equally addicted to superficial information and the politics of drama. While, by association, Obama supporters are less likely to be this blatantly biased due to race or religion (even if it is a perceived rather than real association with Islam), I am sure some of them harbor bias that is equally baseless.
The reason the government has run roughshod (so overtly) the past 8 years, is that many in the general public are happy to not have to think about real issues or to delve into researching the platforms of their candidates. They are much happier with sitcom comedies, shopping, watching cars race around an oval, seeing overpaid athletes perform, stuffing their faces, creating drama, and staring at computer/TV screen.
Here’s to where that fat bowl of complacency set on the table of democracy has gotten us. Ignorance isn’t bliss.

I don’t even know who you are, bloggerinterrupted, but I’ve seen your video of the Berea Obama heckler. I was there. And I live in Strongsville and am horrified by these fucking idiots. How did you get in? Can I work with you? I tried like hell to get tickets but couldn’t get in. I blog for OpenSalon. How can I get in to these kinds of events–did you have a press pass?
Those were my fucking neighbors. Sorry for the profanity, but I live with this crowd. I don’t mind an intellectual conversation about fiscal conservatism, the pros and cons of NAFTA, the role of the miliary, etc., but for godsakes, does it always have to come to this? The fucking fraudulent character attacks? I think a mainstream reporter should show your vids directly to McCain, on camera, and ask him to denounce the terrorism charges. I had no idea this mentality was thriving. People voting against their own interests because their low intellect is being exploited by politicians is a real downer to see.
My husband is a Veteran, and McCain does not have his support. The whole ticket is an insult to every brain cell and shred of decency in every person.
Both Palin and McCain are white trash heroes.

I think this video is really stupid. Of course there are idiots that are pro-McCain – there are idiots who are pro-Obama too. I have smart friends who are voting for McCain, and while I don’t agree with them, they are able to make cogent arguments that support their case. Videos like this just distract from the debate of real issues in America.

the two videos (along with the one at Blue Ohioan) are very disturbing. i knew they were out there, but i didn’t know that the hate ran THIS deep! as a Black man… this is scary! the bravery of Barack Obama to stand up to this kind of campaign with his elegance and grace is amazing… may GOD BLESS Barack Obama!

Tony is mistaken.
The division of America into two [very nearly] equal camps, neither of which can grant the other any legitimacy, is THE problem, because it makes it impossible to solve any other problem.
This division was caused by the people advising Ronald Reagan between 1977 and 1980. (I will not descend to argue this any more than I will descend to argue the blueness of the sky. I was there and I strongly surmise that Tony was not.)
Reagan was the first President who did not even pay lip service to the notion of being President of all Americans. He was only the President of HIS Americans. He campaigned (to my naive shock) against ME. He read me out of my citizenship and declared me persona non grata in my own country, along with a hundred million others.
The Republicans of that time MAY have thought that if they forced the country to break into two pieces, they would get enough the larger one (~~ 70%) to be able to sweep the smaller half into permanent internal exile. If you take their rhetoric at face value (usually a mistake), that may have been their game. OR they may have known that the result would be 50-50 (+/- noise) and intended the result that actually happened: making the country permanently ungovernable. It is impossible to know which, and it doesn’t really matter, because both are vicious. The first is an expression of supermajoritarian democracy (which is a contradiction in terms) and the second of majoritarian democracy (which is merely and perfectly odious).
There are precedents for the administration of a country that has been divided into two nations, each large enough to bid for power, each too large to suppress. The locus classicus is Austria after WW2, where a system called “Proporz” was put into effect. For some reason, there seems to be some squeamishness about mechanistic solutions of this kind, because when they have been tried elsewhere, it has typically been in a clandestine manner, without any forthright acknowledgement of what was going on.
The degree of independence of the fifty American States would make the definition and the working of such a system especially difficult, but a glance at the map of red and blue states instantly shows that the country is not governable as a whole on the basis of any sort of winner-take-all electoral system–LEAST OF ALL the one that we have, which was very carefully designed for a vanished time when the movement of goods overland was much more expensive than by water (and movement by air was unimaginable).
So the necessity is some sort of power-sharing arrangement between what have really become two completely different civilizations, unable to agree on even the most basic propositions about what society is. Furthermore, any such arrangement must be designed to be self-stabilizing and self-enforcing. The time is near when we will prefer any experiment, no matter how rash or misconceived, to the status quo.

As someone who’s grew up in Ohio and now have lived in many places (chicago, boston, baltimore, los angeles, kansas city, new york city, london, amsterdam, and san juan)…I can say that ohio in general seems to be one of the least progressive places in the world and yes also the U.S….yes its sad but that’s the truth. And that is precisely why I plan on moving to the coast permanently soon enough and never looking back. I’m out!

I agree with Frank Wilhoit on all counts and would like to know if there is a way us mere citizens could be part of a better approach that could find either the middle ground or outright division we all so desperately need at this point.
We ignore their vitriol, paranoia, and xenophobia at our expense. We cannot discount the possibility they may win (by hook or by crook). Everything we can do to tip the balance without giving in to their tactics should be done.

I live in the south where my own family members are talking about not voting because they just don’t think they can vote for one of “them”. Such *ullshit! Interesting how you play the mirror game. I don’t see or hear cries of “traitor” or “kill him” or “off with his head” at Obama rallies in reference to McCain. All I’ve seen is a level of respect, and congenial disagreement. I’ve never seen the amount of hatemongering that people feel they can get away with at any political rally in the past 20 years.

I sure HOPE that you would go to an Obama rally and treat them the same way and ask the same type of questions and do the same editing. But I guess that may be too much to ask of an Obama supporter. I watched videos of people at an Obama MOB being asked about what Obama would do for the country and all they could say was that he would bring HOPE and CHANGE to the world. Talk about a sound bite. I think that if you go to an Obama/Biden Rally, you will see the same igorance from the supporters, if not more. I have been disgusted with the Obama supporters from day one. The rude, crude, and ignorant remarks they make about McCain and Palin are nothing different than what you saw in your video. These people are not racist. They have heard about Obama choosing to stand behind the Muslims, and the other terrorists of the world if he had to.. and that scares us. Lets just hope that if he gets into office, we all can survive the war that it will create.

A few things i’d like to point out as a nobody:
- McCains mob are saying threatening things. Obama’s crown are saying “hope and change.” Which could you say is a negative, and which could you say is a positive?
- Having grown up as a first generation Mexican in California with only white school mates, i was embarrassed to be Mexican (because if you’re white you’re right). It wasn’t until years later that i became proud of my ethnicity.
- Regardless of political affiliation, i would never help push nor motivate hate. Because to be honest, you’ll never be 100% sure what side you’ll end up on. It might be your side that loses and is going to be wiped out.
- I don’t hate anyone for what they believe in, even if they are racist (in beliefs). As long as they don’t treat me bad, deny my opportunities or anything else, it’s fine. Treat me as a human, not as a Mexican, not as someone who isn’t white.
I’m always up for discussing anything with anyone, nothing is prohibited because that’s the only way we can really learn why others think the way they do. It’s a social problem that the idea has been put into our heads not to talk about religion or politics. That’s the same thing that is said about wages and salary. As long as you don’t know who makes more than you you can’t complain, right? But he only way you can make money is by learning how others did it. (Unless you scam people or join shady organizations/associations).
I thought conservatives were supposed to be christian. Good show if they are, eh?

I watched your videos and for the most part I got a good laugh out of them, but what exactly was the purpose of calling out the black McCain supporter in part 2? Assuming that all African Americans are voting for Obama is just as racist (or more accurately, prejudice) as some of the ignorant people you featured in your videos that are blindly supporting McCain and Palin.
And to be absolutely clear – no, I’m not a McCain troll; yes, I am a person of color; and no, I’m not voting for McCain.
