The angry Republicans
Wed, Sep 3, 2008
Sarah Palin can give a speech. A mean-spirited one at that.
This night of the convention really reminded me of the Pat Buchanan GOP, the anger, the negative, the mockery. Which is really all that’s left of the GOP anymore. Sarah Palin did not prove that she’s ready to be vice president. She did prove she’s a meany. And then she paraded her pregnant teenage daughter and the father of her illegitimate child on national television, after claiming they are off limits.
What a sad excuse for a political party.
UPDATE - Obama response.
“The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush’s speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we’ve heard from George Bush for the last eight years. If Governor Palin and John McCain want to define ‘change’ as voting with George Bush 90% of the time, that’s their choice, but we don’t think the American people are ready to take a 10% chance on change,” said Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.
Amen.

Well put…
It seems that the role of the VP candidate in these conventions is to be the ‘heavy’ in their address as they can pile it on without as much fallout. Sarah Palin delivered beyond expectations.
It remains to be seen how she can perform without a teleprompter. At the moment, she might as well be Denise Dufala. Let’s see how she does when she has to form her own thoughts/responses/sentences on-the-fly.
As a former beauty pageant runner-up, this is a person who LIKES to be looked at–she did not show a trace of jitters during her delivery.
I’m not sure if Mc Cain is mildly retarded/senile or a genius.
One thing is for sure–this pick completely stole the momentum of the Dem’s successful convention. All of a sudden the republicans are ‘interesting’
How many people would have tuned in tonight if say, Joe Lieberman was the VP nominee?
I still believe that it is going to happen for Obama–the polls and trends seem much more favorable than in the past decade–but shit, let’s not get too comfortable.
