VIDEO – John Quinn, Berea heckler, fleeing Obama event.
John Quinn, registered Republican and Berea Obama heckler from the press riser, wanted to leave the event without identifying himself to anyone, including police or Secret Service. I followed him out to try and get his name. After asking police to have me leave him alone, who comply, he finally takes a shot at my camera, which finally gets Berea police interested in him. They then hand him off to the Secret Service.
I’m a little concerned that this man, who was in a controlled media area, access to which requires you to identify yourself, was allowed to create an incident from the press riser, refuse to identify himself, and would have left the event completely anonymously if it weren’t for the fact that he was followed by a blogger who he then assaults on the way out. And given that access to the press area had minimal security, without metal detectors, and only one agent waving entrants with a wand, this is a problem.

saw your vid posted over at dailykos. nicely done. this guy, plant or not, is a bonafide tool.
anybody who is that fixated on the pledge of allegiance needs his head examined. next up: the loyalty oath. after that: please provide a list of your neighbors and friends who do not regularly recite the loyalty oath.
i wish you had decked him after he knocked your camera though. that’s what i wanted to do while watching!

I’m sure that the Secret Service made a conscious decision to let him be, up until the point that he became violent with you. Up to then, he was probably regarded as “harmless.” After hitting you, he became “mostly harmless” and the authorities stepped in.
Watching the videos I can’t help but feel a tremendous amount of pity for Mr. Quinn. He’s clearly undergoing some sort of breakdown, and his brief fame will likely accelerate it. Perhaps the Secret Service letting him leave was a rare act of compassion.

but seriously: while i sympathise with your intent, i do think this was a little over the top. after this turd received his epic fail from obama, you didn’t need to follow him around – that tends to piss people off big time, plus it kinda shed a bad image on obama supporters, don’t you think? so let’s not get carried away too much, after all our man barry isn’t elected yet.

Very good work! I know it can be very tense when trying to tape in those instances (having been yelled at by cops on several occasions myself) but you stood your ground and took advantage of the very same 1st Amendment rights that allow GOP operatives like John Quinn to disrupt speeches and not get arrested or silenced.
