UPDATE - NOT Jeff Johnston, Pastor of Community United Church of Christ, foul-mouthed Man of God
Sat, Aug 9, 2008
UPDATE: See the comment below - someone is posting here using Jeff Johnston’s name, email address, and URL. We’re researching.
Second, why does a church pastor have such a foul mouth?
Good thing you have this blog so we can remind you of what an ass hole you really are.
You are just making crap up to make yourself look like a hero. You are an idiot.
Would you like a little cheese with that whine?????????
I’ve emailed this to Jeff at jjohnston@yahoo.com, and at jjohnston@mortoncommunityucc.org, and relevant leaders of UCC, to ask him if he uses this language from the pulpit on Sundays, and if UCC generally encourages it.
Here’s his church website, complete with phone number.
Oh, and btw, his IP adresss is 65.43.178.92, from Cleveland, which is odd, given that his church is in Illinois….maybe my research is bad again. I’ll ask Jeff to confirm.

You got duped - and you might want to take this post down. I know Jeff and he is a liberal minister with a liberal denomination, the United Church of Christ. You probably should have researched this first.

The UCC is headquartered here in Cleveland - they were the first denomination to affirm gay marriage. Good people.

Mike C. is correct. The United Church of Christ tends to be anything but wingnutty. It is the complete opposite. Barack Obama and I are both among the membership of the denomination.
That’s not to say that individual members of the clergy couldn’t be wingnuts; the UCC grants its clergy “freedom of the pulpit.” however, most of the wingnut-types just get frustrated and leave for another denomination.

i know all this. which is why i emailed this post to UCC officials for clarification.

If you knew that, then why would you blog on it and post the guys picture on something that a reasonable person would consider a hoax? At least you should have investigated it first, sent a few emails, done something for verification. You have a Cleveland IP address for someones name in Illinois which should have tipped you off. I’m sorry Tim, this is not right. Jeff is a good man and the UCC is good people.

wrong mike. a reasonable person seeing this man’s comments, with a URL and email address that match the church’s website, would conclude just what i concluded.
if jeff is such a good man, than why is he posting this garbage on a blog? i did investigate it, i have the man’s email address, his church’s URL, and it all matches up. if that’s not him, i’d be pretty surprised.
i’m waiting to here from UCC. if i hear more, i’ll post it.

Let me answer some of your questions, then.
1. No, the UCC does not encourage such talk from the pulpit
2. The UCC “leadership” won’t do a thing about it. The UCC does not have bishops or cardinals or presbyteries or anything like that. The local church hires and fires its own clergy.
So, nothing will happen with your email, unless Rev. Johnston’s own congregants choose to do it.

By the way, sorry to hear about your uncle Anthony’s death, Tim. Did you talk much about the Pentagon Papers with him?

that’s really odd. someone claiming to be “David F., Evanston IN” with that very IP number has left two comments at PB. using email df324@yahoo.com. odd.

I spoke with Tim regarding this earlier this AM, and fully believe that it will be resolved soon. Mike C is correct (thanks Mike) there is some duping going on here. But it is no fault of Tim.
It may (or may not) be related to comments I posted on the sites of various news services and newspapers regarding the links between UCCTruths.org (a rabidly anti-United Church of Christ entity) and the bogus IRS complaint against the UCC’s General Synod that gained some press in the MSM and attention on the blogosphere last winter just before the Rev. Wright controversy blew up.
Tim knows that I bear him no grudge, and trust that he will remove my image and the name of my congregation on this story before he uses it as a jumping off point to bring light to things altogether more sinister than I.
Regards,
Rev. Jeff Johnston
Illinois
