McCain on defensive on foreign policy - just like that. UPDATEx3
Sat, Jul 26, 2008
Lets see if the PD calls this ad “negative“. The McCain campaign just dropped into the gutter.
This ad is utterly untrue, negative, and beyond the pale.
As we reported yesterday, the Pentagon told Obama that the issue here was not that he couldn’t bring cameras, but that he only had campaign staff with him and not Senate staffers. And since the Pentagon didn’t tell him this until he had already embarked on his trip, it was too late for him to do anything.
I see this as good news. McCain is now on the defensive (pathetically) on the one issue he claims as his own - foreign policy and defense. If they are playing this bullshit card now, they’re in big trouble.
Which makes last week’s trip a total, unmitigated, success.
UPDATE: Another thought just occurred to me. This episode with the Pentagon kaiboshing a visit to the troops was under the radar until now. It’s not a story the McCain campaign wanted to highlight in an ad.
UPDATEx2 - Gallup tracking shows the trip worked. Lead up to 7 points.
Obama’s particularly large leads over McCain in Friday and Saturday’s tracking suggest that the massive publicity surrounding Obama’s speech at the Victory Tower in Berlin on Friday — the only major public event of the trip — and coverage of Obama’s meetings with the heads of state in France and Germany may have tilted U.S. voter preferences more in his favor.
Notably, Obama’s current seven-point lead over McCain ties his widest since the start of Gallup Poll Daily tracking of the general election in early March, and was achieved only once previously.
UPDATEx3 - Of course, the ad includes footage of Barack, with troops, hitting the ice-cold 3-pointer. NOT. SMART.
Mccain’s new ad uses footage of Barack Obama playing basketball with the troops, to argue that he has been ignoring them. I cannot imagine anything more disingenuous…or more stupid.
And to the video!
