I’ll finally have a Mile-High memory to erase this one
When you say the words “Denver” and “Mile High Stadium”, one image comes to mind for every single Clevelander, most Ohioans, and Browns fans everywhere. This image. Earnest Byner, after a heroic day totalling 67 yards rushing, 7 receptions for 120 yards, and 2 touchdowns, fumbling the ball before falling into the end zone for what seemed like the game-tying touchdown.
Agony does not describe the feeling of that moment. In fact, there isn’t a word in the English language to do this moment justice. Now, however, I will have a new, happier moment from Denver’s Mile High Stadium is mentioned, even if now it’s called Invesco Field.
In a break with tradition, Barack Obama will accept the Democratic presidential nomination at Invesco Field at Mile High, a 76,000-seat stadium, rather than at the site of the party’s national convention across town.
Now, I’m not so much of a Cleveland-homer that I expect Barack to make some mention of Cleveland fans and their agony on that patch of land, in addition to an inevitable shout out to Bronco fans, but I can…ahem….hope.
