I’ve been in politics a long time, and I’ve see no candidate like Barack Obama, ever.  This man is special, he is going to make history, and we are all lucky to be alive to see it.

Unfortunately, reading the “netroots” these days, you’d think Barack Obama was somehow Benedict Arnold.  Frankly, I’ve been expecting this since I started supporting Barack last December.  It was inevitable that the lefter-than-thou would eventually come to realize that the little pet issues they obsess over aren’t really all that important in a general election, and to the extent these teeny tiny isses are important, the “netroots” is on the wrong side of them electorally.  Barack acted on that reality, and now they’re mad.  Call the wahmbulance.

For example, FISA.  Big fat zero.  No one cares.  Faith-based initiatives.  What.  Ever.  Gun control and the Supreme Court case.  Every single wedge issue which Karl Rove has trained these “netroots” leaders to froth over, Barack is taking them off the table.  You want your guns?  Fine.  You want your church’s soup kitchen funded?  Fine.  Here ya go.

Barack has bigger things to do.  

I’ve been dying to see a candidate who would finally just give the squeaky wheels, whose minor, but obsessive wedge issues have been the entire problem with our politics, the grease they want.  A little drop here, a little drop there, and the issue is GONE.  

And then we can move on to the big things, like the war, like getting Bin Laden, like this absurdly Dickensian economy, like the tragedy of our health care system.  

You guys wanna weep and wail and gnash your teeth, go right ahead.  Karl Rove has trained you well.  You’re obsessing over the napkins in your dining car on the O-Train.  I’m up in front shoveling fuel into the engine.  Sorry if the noise upsets your tea service.
