Convention blogger credentials problems continue

Politics

The BSB blogger credential saga continues, as it does for all the other bloggers who will be at Denver with the blessing of the state party.  Kos is on it.

Aside from the fact that Aaron created a strawman (I never said they’d have no access), the fact was that he claimed general pool bloggers would be able to walk around the convention floor via floor passes. Well, now we know that those floor passes will be limited in number, and won’t be with the state delegations.

        * General Bloggers who received credentials will only get arena credentials. This allows them to access a general press area and blogger lounge and the concourses.

        * A first-come-first-serve section of seats will be reserved within the Hall for bloggers […]

        * The blogger lounge is in the Nuggets work-out room (we hear it doesn’t smell too bad!)

So there’s a blogger ghetto for the unblessed, and there’s another place for the blessed.

But for the state-level bloggers, the mission is different, and it definitely includes coordination with, and access to their state delegations.

it’s clear that my original complaints were correct — that the best state-level bloggers, cut out by pernicious party hacks and/or the incompetence of convention organizers — will not have easy access to their delegations on the floor of the convention.

I’ve always said that to be on the floor with the delegates is not a news making situation - nothing that happens on the floor is going to be newsworthy.   All bloggers will get from that is the warm and fuzzy feeling of rubbing elbows with the likes of Ron Malone and ODP executive director Doug Kelly.  Woo hoo!

The real stories at Denver will be elsewhere.  The hotel bars, the parties, and in the crowd of 75,000 at Mile High Stadium on August 28.  And now that ODP has helped create, along with other state parties, a situation in which there are blessed bloggers, and non-blessed ones, my guess is that the non-blessed ones will be getting the stories.  Especially given how the ODP feeds nothing to the blessed bloggers other than their own spin.  Todd Hoffman ahoy.

Who wants to play ball with an obviously biased blog, who’s position in the credential caste system is owed entirely to the state party chair, vs. a blogger who is in Denver literally in spite of the state party?  Answer seems pretty obvious.
