We told you so. Now it’s time for Subodh.
As I’ve written before, my experiences with Marc Dann have been uniformly negative and as a result, I hear a lot of Marc Dann horror stories. I can’t print the worst ones. But I can, and have, tried to make it clear that Marc Dann is not to be trusted with anything, let alone a statewide office. I supported Subodh Chandra in the 2006 primary not just because Subodh was the best candidate, but because Marc Dann needed to be stopped.
Listen to this closely.
EVERYONE in Ohio’s media and political culture, from Ted Strickland and Chris Redfern, to Brent Larkin, Doug Clifton, and Joe Hallett, KNEW THE SAME. And in spite of this, Ohio was force fed heaping spoonfuls of Marc Dann, via closed door meetings and utterly negligent editorial boards, giving him a state Senate seat he never earned, and an AG endorsement he never had to compete for.
Even Marc Dann’s own hometown newspaper, the Tribune Chronicle, endorsed Dann, despite the fact that they HAD to know all about Marc Dann. And now it’s a bit rich for that paper to announce in a blaze of pomposity that their “editorial board” now wishes Dann to resign.
Give me a FUCKING BREAK.
Make no mistake. Marc Dann will soon resign. He guaranteed that with his laughable performance today. We will now watch some equally closed process try to foist another AG on Ohio. And newspapers in Ohio will roll over and play dead for whatever the result, especially if that person is from some newspaper’s hometown (for example, Bill Mason’s appointment will make the PD ejaculate into its pants).
This should be a call to arms for Ohio’s blogosphere, because we were right. To me, whatever replacement Chris Redfern and Ted Strickland cook up from this fiasco is dead on arrival thanks to that process’s production of Marc Dann. Any replacement that comes from the same cesspool of insider cronyism which Dann oozed out of is unacceptable.
We told you so. You laughed us off. Well, guess what. You have a chance to redeem yourselves. Make Subodh Chandra the replacement. This episode is going to take a lot of heavy lifting to make things right in Ohio, and appointing Subodh would be a good start.

Tim–
If Dann resigns now, wouldn’t they have to hold another election due to the fact that he hasn’t served out half his term? Perhaps ODP is asking him to stay around until they are able to appoint a successor…

Shalom Tim,
Here’s another angle for you. What do you think Dann’s resignation will do to Strickland’s chances as a vp?

@Swanny: That’s precisely what I’m hearing.

Ohio Dems “force fed heaping spoonfuls of Marc Dann” in ‘06? Not quite - he creamed Subodh in the primary — you know, that event in which people actually vote. Just think how Subodh’ve fared in the general election … Subodh is quite a talent, indeed, but having never been elected to anything before and with a small base, he didn’t stand a chance then, and he doesn’t stand a chance now. That’s why no one is seriously considering him now. And that’s why Fisher and Cordray are on the very short list of Dann successors. Make Subodh the replacement now, and you might as well turn the office over to the GOP immediately and save our firepower for the other races.
