VIDEO: Cynthia Ruccia, Franklin County Dem Exec. Mbr, on O’Reilly

Thu, May 15, 2008

Politics

Cynthia Ruccia, Franklin County Democratic Party Executive Committee member, and 1996 congressional candidate who I worked to get out the vote for, was on Bill O’Reilly tonight in what I must say was one of the most bizarre confluences of Fox News, Hillary Clinton, Ohio, and my own brain.

I can’t imagine what would make a sitting member of a county Democratic Party executive committee decide to become fuel for Bill O’Reilly’s twisted agenda, appear on his show, with someone from Pennsylvania who does not appear to be fully aware of what she’s doing, and actually say she may vote for John McCain in the fall.

As GOTV director for the state in 1996, when Ruccia ran for Congress, I now regret helping this woman.  My advice to Cynthia Ruccia – don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

  2. Sotally Tober Says:

What a bunch of whiners! Hot-headed O’Reilly was loving this. Let them boycott!! I hear John McCain is going to need votes in Nov. so we now know he’ll be getting at least TWO votes.

These women are disgraceful to the female gender. I am a female, a SMART woman who sees signs of two women experiencing PMS in full bloom on ‘FAUX NEWS.’ What an embarrassment!!

Counting the days when Hillary and her supporters ride off into the sunset.

  3. Katie Says:

If you don’t believe it you haven’t heard all the Hillary supporters women and men, who are planning to switch from the Democratic Party to Independent or Republican the Week of June 4th to the 14th in protest and will be voting McCain.
Hope Obama can do it without the Hillary supporters and the blue collar workers.

  4. Chop Susie Says:

    Katie’s got it right!

The nasty comments in this blog underscore the clear fact that the democratic party no longer represents the interest of their largest voting constituency….women.

The democratic party is an old boy’s club…and it’s about time their democraphics reflected that.

    Go independant in 08!

    Yes we can ladies!

  5. cathy myers Says:

I want Hillary to win and won’t give up yet..but if Obama is the nominee I will vote for McCain.. McCain is honest, a true patriot, he loves his country, his wife loves this country, that is a hell of a lot more than I can say for Obama and his bitter depressed and angry wife..who has never been proud of her country.. No.. I would feel much more secure with McCain than Obama thank you… with Obamas gang of friends one could never know what to expect. This man is so detached from reality and the real people of this country ..he could not be further from what Americans want and need.. never mind that he has no clue how to go about providing it. Hillary .. my choice.. but McCain if she is not the nominee.

  6. Mandelay Says:

Yes we can. Vote against the Democratic Party. It’s the only way to send the message that sexism has to be thrown under the bus, “sweetie.”

  7. odanuki Says:

Unbelievable. You can’t blame sexism for the terrible campaign that HRC ran, the questions of integrity that have followed the Clintons for over a decade, or the fact that Obama’s campaign has appealed to a majority of those who have voted in Democratic contests this year.

It’s outrageous that any candidate’s supporters would attempt to blackmail their party over a losing campaign. Just as Obama and his supporters ought to be magnanimous in victory, HRC and her supporters should be graceful in defeat.

  8. Nick D Says:

The democratic party is an old boy’s club…and it’s about time their democraphics reflected that.

Right. That’s why the highest ranking Democrat in the government right now is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Some “old boys club.”

  9. Katie Says:

    Odanuki,
We have the media who annointed Obama. Witness MSNBC, CNN, NBC. The ratio of negative stories on Hillary to Obama’s fluff stories are unbearable. Just today, hard hitting interview on NBC by Brian William. We found out Obama likes wine and a good steak. Now that’s news.
You have only Obama to thank for dividing the Democratic Party. Ironic, the candidate who was to unite has done more to divide the party and the USA then anyone in recent memory.

We will be graceful, and gracefully support McCain!
Call it blackmail if you must. As far as I remember, this is still America, and I and her supporters have the right to vote for whomever we chose. In which ever party we chose. I’m not married to the Democratic party even after 40 years of voting for Democrats. Donna Bazille must have forgotten, the DNC needs my vote, I don’t need them, her or Obama.
I’m sure I and other Hillary supporters will be welcomed in to the Republican fold quite warmly. And we will strongly support and campaign for McCain, who will win with our support!

Once again the good ole boys club throws the strongest candidate, and the only candidate able to win the states needed to capture the White House for the Democratic Party, under the bus.

  10. ruth Says:

These women are absolutely right! Good job! I, too, am going to leave the Democratic Party if HRC is not the nominee. As an American woman first and Democrat second, I feel perfectly okay voting for the “other” party’s nominee if I think he/she is better. Obama is the same old politics in a new wrapper. Doesn’t anyone find it hypocritical that he made a beeline for Michigan–talking about the general election–but his supporters prevented any compromise that would hve seated the delegates at the national convention? Same with Florida. NOW he wants those Democrat votes to count because he thinks he’s going to be the nominee and they’ll be good little folks and fall in line behind the “party.” Sorry, but this “party” is pretty much over for me this year! If I don’t vote for McCain, I have no qualms at all about writing Hillary’s name on the ballot. I’d rather cast my vote for her on principle.

  11. Hillary08 Says:

Ditto – except I’ll vote Green Party in case McCain turns out to be a loon I can at least help the greens get a voice. No more disgusting jokes about Hillary’s pantsuits, “sweetie” comments, boy’s club bashing (I’m talking to you Matthews, Olbermann, Russert, and Williams, Cooper, and on and on). If I hear one more joke about Hillary’s genitals or reference by news media to the Hilary nutcracker doll I will SCREAM!!! and then vote Green party – or if they piss me off enough – vote Repugs down-ballot!
Those two ladies deserve a freaking medal for standing up the the stupid media. Women buy the majority of products for all households – we need to boycott the advertisers ladies! Watch their commercials and boycott all those items!

  12. DB Says:

Right. The media doesn’t treat your candidate “fairly,” so vote Republican. That’ll show ‘em. If McCain wins, remember the role you played every time a U.S. soldier loses an arm, a leg or his or her life in Iraq the next four years.

  13. Bridget Says:

The fact that these women are not being taken seriously is the perfect example of why we are so angry. Stop ignoring what we are saying fools in the DNC! And no, a VP concilitory prize won’t cut it either.

I can’t express enough how disappointed I am in the party that I have whole heartedly supported for all of my adult life. I have walked door to door, stayed up late, drove the extra miles, for Democratic candidates over the years, but it is time for me to leave. The party of today does not support my values of fairness and respect for everyone.

In the last 25 years the Dems have only elected one person to the office of president–Bill Clinton. For the party to allow his wife, who has also contributed significantly to the party on many levels too, to be hammered on without any comments is beyond my tolerance. It took Saturday Night Live to finally speak up and make comments about the poor treatment of Hillary and the gentle questions asked of Obama. Shame on you all.
for a presidential candidate at all
I won’t vote for McCain–I won’t vote at all. I will not take responsibility for putting another unqualified man into the white house.

  14. Bridget Says:

    To odanuki

Obama supporters have said they will leave the party and not vote for Clinton too. Don’t think it is just a woman thing either–my husband is joining me on this one.

The fact that you don’t see the problem tells me you are most likely part of the problem.

  15. Bridget Says:

    To Sotally Tober

Define smart, because the only thing I see is a mean spirited post from someone who is missing the point. Which can be argued that that is an indication you’re not to bright afterall. I often question people who define themselves as “smart” who then go on to say wierd unrelated stuff.

Which brings me to one of my pet peeves: Obama supporters tend to display rude behavior towards other Democrats they are trying to win over–again, not a “smart” move seeing as I tend to associate thewir behavior as the behavior of the candidate they represent–birds of a feather flock together.

What Hillary supporters are saying is that the media has given Obama a free ride and have blasted Hillary every step of the way. To ignore what has been documented–newscasters getting taken off the air for their poor behavior and sexist comments, networks making public apologies for sexist comments etc., means you prefer to deny reality because you want your candidate to win regardless of how he gets there. Shameful, especially coming from people who claim they want change–Apparently sexism is alive and well and the only thing that has changed is the day.

So, why don’t you use some of those alleged smart brain cells and take a good look at what has been going on. It isn’t so much your candidate as it is the way in which he prefers to do business. I refuse to support it along with the many others who are standing up and saying enough is enough.

  16. Linda Says:

Hilary’s bitterness permeates the room! Ugh!

These ’sweet ladies’ just happened to watch and appear on O’Reilly!

  17. Trudy Says:

I am so fed up with the extremely biased pro Obama coverage of this campaign. I have been concerned about this and have contacted the media involved and the Democratic party multiple times with no results. I will be contacting Kimberly Myers and Cynthia Ruccia to offer support, I was beginning to think that I was one of few who did not “drink the Kool Aide”. I did not start out as a Hillary supporter but I am so offended at the way she has been treated that I feel I must speak out and take action. I have changed my voting affiliation from Democrat to Independent and yes if Obama is the nominee I will not only be voting for McCain I will be working for his campaign. Barack Obama is arrogant, elitist, and has actively manipulated very step of his campaign with the assistance of the Democratic “old boy network” . Obama has presented a lightweight candidacy filled with vague language about “hope” and “change” — what has been called “rhetorical cotton candy.” He and his wife Michelle seem to be very anti American and she seems to be the angriest wife ever to aspire to the position of First Lady. It also seems that Senator Barack Obama doesn’t know how many states there are in our union. In a statement you will not hear about on the nightly news, he declared that during his presidential campaign, he has visited 57 states. He also said that he has one more to visit: Alaska and Hawaii. If McCain, Clinton, or Bush had made this statement it would run loop after loop on every news channel but because it was Obama it is dismissed with ” oh, of course he really knows how many states we have” and not given any coverage. No matter how outrageous the act or negative the information it is covered up and glossed over by the media.
    Just call me “Sweetie”

  18. cosey fanni tutti Says:

I’m really curious. why is it the democratic party’s and obama’s fault that the media, which is by and large owned and controlled by republican interests and beholden only to getting more viewers, has been biased in their coverage? it’s telling that the only example they could come up with in the clip above (and most of the examples given in the rest of these comments) are of media folks. if you all want to boycott something, boycott the media. they deserve it, since they do by and large suck. and really, a pro-life, uber-hawk who will pack the supreme court with more crazy judges is better than a black man who’s views are almost identical with hillary’s?

  19. Joseph Says:

I thought the Jews controlled the media. ;)

And since they don’t like Obama (because he’s a Muslim and wants to negotiate with terrorists), your whole theory about the media being biased against Obama goes out the window.

  20. Nick D Says:

Wasn’t it just 18 months ago that we were celebrating the first female speaker of the house? Which party did that? The Democratic Party! Do you see the Republicans in position to put a woman in a top leadership post like that?

Hell, I’m hearing that Hillary is set to become our next Senate Majority Leader. Now, are you ladies telling me that you will leave the party even if its leaders in both chambers of congress are women?

Are you really going to vote for a candidate in McCain who has promised to pack the Supreme Court with right wing nut jobs, and keep us in Iraq for 100 years while our country crumbles around us?

I’m not saying you don’t have a legitimate beef. You do. With the media. They deserve some punishment. Not Obama.

  21. David Says:

In 2006 I cast my first vote for President for John Kerry, even though I hated him at the time. I did so because I realized that even though Kerry wasn’t the candidate I wanted, he was the only chance of correcting the mistakes of the Bush administration.

I really do hope to see a female president someday, but I won’t put a person’s race or gender over issues. I urge you to do the same. Barack may not be your favorite, so don’t vote for him. Instead cast your vote for a Supreme Court judge that will uphold Roe vs. Wade, for a candidate that won’t needlessly send your sons & daughters to war, or or against any of the other cliffs that John McCain seeks to steer this country off of.

  22. David Says:

    Make that in 2004.

  23. Hillary Supporter Says:

When Geoff Davis refereed to Obama as “boy” the party and the media were outraged! When Obama called a newswoman “sweetie” it was laughed at! Everyone laughed about the Hillary nutcracker but if you put Obama’s face on a certain flour there would be an outcry that would be heard around the world. This election isn’t racist?

Woman are tired of being treated as less than second class citizens! Black woman especially should be outraged. When slavery was abolished, black women went from being the property of the plantation owners to the property of their husbands. It wasn’t until 1920 that ALL women got the vote!

Bitter, PMS afflicted, crybabies, whiners? No, we’re educated females that can see past the rhetoric and realize that this country needs more than a lecturer or a teacher! If our country is to survive, we need someone with the knowledge, experience and stamina to fight for the poor and working class. The DNC WILL hear our voices raised in outraged! Clinton stealing the election? Not at all, it was stolen from her by the DNC and the media!

Will I vote for McCain? Never! But I WILL write my conscience, Senator (2 term) Hillary Clinton.

As far as I know, the executive washroom does not only have urinals!

  24. Polly Stewart Says:

    cosey fanni tutti:

The silence, in this regard, of the DNC, weak willed Dean and Brazile-with-her-own-agenda is more than just cause to walk away from the party I have supported whole-heartedly for all my adult life. The media have done their job well, helping to shove a candidate farther along than his qualifications justify. The DNC did NOT do their job by acquiescing, remaining silent and in fact being a party to it. Marginalizing the core supporters of the party, the blood and sweat and financial base AND expecting those same supporters to just be quiet and fall in line is beyond reprehensible. And their actions will cost them in numbers and in contributions.

I will NOT do what people -TELL- me to do; you cannot force my will. I won’t sit down, I won’t shut up and I won’t fall in line. I’ve always been proud to be a Democrat until now… enough is enough.

  25. Eric Says:

    good god damned grief!

  26. River Says:

What is it you want? Yes, the media is sexist, misogynist, and objectifies women. So what do you want? That is a separate issue from Fl & MI and to put them into the same argument is nil. In my opinion, these are 2 separate issues or even more. Blame the Obama supporters for being immature jerks if you will, blame the media for being sexist pigs if you will and then where are you? Blaming others. A boycott won’t help much but will hurt millions of us who are starving, un-insured, living in the streets and fighting an unjust war. The Sexism will still exist, the woman-hating will still exist. The country will be several steps closer to a radical supreme court and women will be objectified and denied even more. Think of your children and their children to come. Buck up and be more determined to win next time, that’s what Americans do. Obama has managed to overcome a huge racist country to achieve the nomination for president. I know there is a woman somewhere out there who can defy the odds; by overcoming the misogynist media bias and good-ole’ boy sexist politics to gain the presidential nomination.

  27. DB Says:

I sympathize with Clinton supporters, but I think it’s a bit simplistic to blame the media and good, ol’ boys for her defeat. No, Obama didn’t face a lot of scrutiny in the beginning, but the media did a pretty good job of making up for that with their incessant harping about the Rev. Wright, Obama’s “bitter” comment, lapel pins, etc. The wall-to-wall coverage of those issues very nearly derailed his campaign. Bottom line: Blame Clinton’s inept campaign. She had every advantage: name recognition; money; the support of those “good ol’ boys” (120 superdelegates before a vote was even cast); the perception among the electorate that she was the inevitable nominee. But she and her people botched it. She chose the wrong message — experience at a time when people want change. She squandered her resources. She ignored smaller and caucus states because they “don’t matter” and because, after all, she was going to wrap up the nomination on Feb. 5. Bill Clinton turned the black community against her by belittling Obama’s victory in South Carolina. Finally, it’s hypocritical to claim Hillary lost because she was dismissed as a woman. One common theme I see if remarks by her supporters is that Obama is a lightweight, that he has no attributes other than the fact that he’s a good speaker. Well, guess what, he put together a flawless campaign operation, one that obliterated the vaunted Clinton machine. A lightweight doesn’t do that.

  28. Angie Says:

I voted for the first time for President Clinton. I truly believe with all my heart the Hillary is an even strong, more dynamic person than her husband would honestly do what is in the best interest of the country. Not just because she is a woman, that is a bonus. I feel she is the best because she can see outside the box, she has already measured the problems and researched for the answers. On day one, America would begin to heal its wounds with HIllary as our president. I will support her to the WH, however, if that option is taken from me, I will support the Republican candidate, I will not look back.

  29. cosey fanni tutti Says:

    polly stewart:

I understand what you’re saying. the media has been reprehensible in their coverage of the campaign, it’s true. but the media alone isn’t the reason that obama has won so many contests across the country. and the dnc could only have done so much to affect the way the media covers the campaign. in the past two presidential elections the party kicked and screamed about the bias at fox news and yet they didn’t change the way they covered gore and kerry. it’s dangerous to say that by saying nothing they are validating those reprehensible view points. by that line of reasoning each and every one of us is probably responsible for many horrible things because we haven’t said or done anything.

hillary supporters have every right to be angry. it’s been a long, hard fought primary campaign, but eventually it has to come to an end. we’re not asking you to get over the anger or to drop the issues of sexism in the media and culture at large. nominating obama/not nominating hillary isn’t some kind of validation for all of that, it’s merely a statement of the will of a majority of the democratic party. and the party is strong enough to survive the rifts this process has revealed, because in the end there is a HUGE difference between obama and mccain. huge. to say that the republican party is better to women and women’s rights is wholly illogical. take the supreme court, for instance:

in one recent case, the ledbetter (sp?) case, illuminates this on an issue that hillary has brought up again and again, the wage gap between men and women. in that case, a jury had found convincingly that goodyear (I believe) discriminated against lily ledbetter, a production manager, by keeping her wages lower than her male counterparts at the same position. the evidence was incontrovertible. but the supreme court found in a 5-4 decision (with, I believe, roberts, alito, scalia, thomas, and kennedy in the majority) that, despite the evidence, ledbetter had no standing to sue since the only act of wage discrimination was the initial one 20 years ago, since the statute only allows 180 days from the infraction to file wage discrimination suits. this decision was only possible because of the bush appointed justices. if mccain were elected, there would be even more nutjob conservative justices who would make similar rulings, thus eroding many of the rights and liberties we hold dear.

  30. Kathryn Sullivan Says:

OMG, I knew there were more out who felt just like I do….betrayed, and once again told to go sit down, be quiet and oh yes, pull the Democrat lever………not this time Howard Dean, not this time. Never again will I be treated like I don’t count and what I want is not relevent. When they need people to pound the pavement and make the phone calls and serve the food they damn sure don’t hesitate to call on us and up until now I have felt like I counted. No more ladies, no more. I will send my registration card that reads Democrat to Howard Dean and register Green and vote for Nader unless it looks like Obama might win, then I will vote McCain……….and when a party comes along that really stands for equality for all I will work my heart out for them…..ARE YOU LISTENING HOWARD???? YOU HAD BETTER HEAR US!!!

  31. jessiejames Says:

    DB,

Clearly, Obama’s “flawless” campaign wasn’t flawless. His campaign knew that Wright was a huge issue. They failed to deal with it effectively. They’ve failed to deal with any of the cultural issues that have dogged the Democratic Party since Reagan. They’ve also managed to alienate a huge block of reliably Democratic voters.

The proof of my POV is that, in spite of the Clinton campaign’s errors, significantly less funding, and media that seems to be more interested in dating Obama than doing any actual reporting, the popular vote is neck-and-neck. Not only has Obama not “obliterated” Clinton, he hasn’t even managed a convincing victory.

I’ve voted for the Democrat in every presidential election since I reached voting age. I was prepared to vote for ANY of the Democratic candidates in November. That has changed. I’m not sure that I can vote for McCain but I won’t vote for Obama.

  32. Amy Says:

Response to ‘Open Letter to CSCT’

Hillary Clinton was vilified for being a woman, period. I don’t expect you to see this because you believe people who see this plainly & wish to empower themselves the only way they know how are petty and selfish. Obama supporters & MSM have tried to deny women their respect & power, so we’ll take that back & prove our empowerment.

Unfortunately, it’s not the right-wing that vilified Hillary, it’s the Obama supporters. How can we show they need to respect us and 50% of the Democratic Party? By not supporting their candidate. Got that? It would be too convenient and meaningless to illustrate that point by supporting THEIR candidate. Women matter, our time is NOW. Not later.

Selfish-soapbox-pontification? Righteous-indignation? Spend one minute writing about the larger issue of sexism in America then tell ME about these things.

Let’s talk about violence against women in America, eh? How about the weekly reports of college women, hunted down by piggish men that rape and kill them? My experience with this came when I was 15 and I was kidnapped, raped and almost hung from a tree. Yes, hung from a tree…sounds like a lynching, no? 22 years later I gave birth to my second child. While in the hospital, my husband sent my older child, a 15 year-old daughter to a friends house. They disappeared for a day. Turns out 5 disgusting pieces of sh*t men/teen boys sexually assaulted her forcing her to perform oral sex on them. Nothing has changed in 22 years. TELL ME IT DOESN’T HURT. TELL ME IT’S PETTY. Tell me I can’t exert my peaceful boycott of this election and tell me more, that I can’t vote for whoever the hell I want to vote for. Women have been silent too long, I’ve been silent too long. You WILL hear us.

Many fine women fought for my right to vote for whomever and they fought for your right to vote Obama.

I’m a white, middle class woman and like it or not, we are suffering atrocities. And if you believe we are petty for acting out against the sexist bullies out there after we have all been bullied by bush for 8 years, you will believe it when you have McCain.

Thank you, but I will vote for whomever I want, it’s all the power we have right now thanks to the media and the Obamabots.

  33. Independent from Massachusetts Says:

A recent Mass poll showed that in the event of a Obama-McCain contest, Massachusetts is tied!
Yes – even Massachusetts may go Republican in the fall!
Good luck to the Latte Democrats who are sabotaging a uniquely qualified candidate that happened to be a woman in favor of another John Kerry. With Obama they have four more years of Republican presidency guaranteed!

  34. Kalli Says:

To Nick who said Pelosi is House Speaker and Clinton is poised to be Senate Majority Leader; are you trying down us, women with koolaid? Hillary is poised to be banished to be the governor of New York for more “how-to-govern” training. Do you really believe Harry Reid would step aside to give that gavel to Clinton. Do you really think the old boys would be comfortable with Hillary around after stabbing her in the back. All those superdelegates would be very happy if Clinton were not around the Capitol so that they would not see her face again. How in all good conscience you can deal with someone that you’ve betrayed day-in and day out. And may I remind you Clintons had done alot for the party, she had campaigned for Obama for his UJS Senate seat and this is how he pays his mentor. She had guided him through the maze of the senate floor, and this his how he repays her? I wonder if Clinton is a man, would superdelegates that jump ship really betrayed her?

Obama needs women like us and now he wants to be nice “don’t be like that guys”, such a patronizing and condescending behavior so unbecoming of a President of this great nation.

  35. Kalli Says:

To DB and all that swoon over to Obama because he ran a flawless campaign. So did GWBush in 2000 and 2004. And he proves that a good campaigner does not mean a good chief executive officer. It is one thing to run a flawless campaign (Axelrod got his training under clinton and so are many of his advisors) but its another thing to run a country.

I just want people to remember, GWBush ran on change, bring back morality to the White House bi-partisanship yada, yada, yada, but we see what happened. Do not be fooled by his youth and his inexperienced. It is easy to point out mistakes, problems but has he given us a solution about the price of gas? No, he just gave us a laundry list of problems. Mark my word, he would use the gas tax holiday issue sooner than expected.

If I have to choose between a father (Obama) whose daughters are subjected to hatred sermons almost every weekend and a mother (Clinton) who has raised a beautiful and intelligent daughter that would not dream of throwing her parents under the bus for any reasons, in fact come to rescue her mother, I chose a MOTHER any day.

If the choice is Obama (a great betrayer) or McCain (a great hero that stand by his convictions) I choose McCain. Why did I say Obama is a great betrayer? He accused his grandmother as a racist equating her with his pastor, betrayed his father and step father by saying that they are atheists even thought his father was buried in the islamic rites. This guy will do anything to get elected and slash and burn anyone along the way.

  36. Andrea Says:

I think it is ignorant of you to vote for McCain out of protest. In the long run you will be hurting yourselves and America by doing so.

  37. Margaret Says:

I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to hear about what these women are doing!! I, too, wondered, how much of a lone voice I was. No Hillary, no contributions, no vote, no kidding. The disrespect I have witnessed in the MSM for Senator Clinton, especially by Obama supporters, has sickened me. Before I had heard of these women and their proposed boycott, I had already stopped watching most cable news shows, especially MSNBC. And FYI, I no longer consider Fox News to be “Faux News”: I have found them to be far less biased than I once thought, fairer in Hillary coverage, and that has included Bill O’Reilly, which I can’t believe I’m saying but I am.

  38. nonono Says:

    This makes no sense.

I am a white male who has always, always thought that Hillary was popularly vilified for being a powerful woman. At the beginning of this campaign I strongly supported her, mostly because she is very smart and experienced and knows her info.

Over time I came to recognize that Obama is not fool’s gold, but a gifted speaker and thinker and I like his ideas alot. I shifted my support.

My distaste for Hillary at this point is a reflection of how the Clintons have run this campaign and what they have been willing to do to try to get ahead. But after I got over my frustration, I would have voted for her if she won (hey if she wins) the nomination.

But there are just two things missing from all the vitriol that the more ardent criers of rampant sexism are missing.

    1. If the tables were turned, you could take nearly any one of these posts and switch “sexist” for “racist.”

    2. John McCain wants to overturn Roe Vs Wade within ONE YEAR. The idea that anyone, man or woman, would be so careless as to choose their own bitterness over making sure that does not happen represents the absolute worst of humankind.

I think you ought to be really, really careful of painting in such broad strokes. You simply cannot reduce all of that which is unique and fresh and good about BO to what some stupid male pundits think.

And as for the “sweetie” comment, yes it f*cking sucked. I was really bummed out about it. But I was also impressed that the man apologized for it. Cynically call it a political ploy, but come now, can you imagine John McCain, Ted Kennedy, GW Bush, and on and on ever doing the same thing?

Oh well divide and conquer, always seems to work…..

  39. Yvonne Says:

This is absolutely embarrassing. Women fought hard to have a say in this country and now because the majority of the people have voted for Change as opposed to more of the same we are going to whine and destroy the party who has introduced more legislation in the support of women? Wasn’t it McCain who just voted against women’s right to seek equal pay? I mean grow the f*** up! How can we as a movement get anywhere if we insist on throwing tantdrums when we don’t get our way. A strong women can get anywhere on her own. She does not need to ride the coattails of her husband to get there. She does not stay in a marriage based on lies and deceit to obtain a high position. Is that what we women are about? We sleep our way to the top. We as women have a better chance with Barack Obama in office because of the legislations he has passed thus far. There are now legislation to test the toys our children’s play with. I don’t know about you but I do care who gets into office. The Clintons do not value family as evident by their conduct. The Obamas are the example of what an American family should look like (referencing their intactness not color) Would you vote a prostitute in office because she is a woman or would you vote for someone who can be an example to our daughters, nieces, granddaughters and future leaders. Hillary was not an example of what a women should be. We are strong and we can get to where we need to get on our merits. It was the way she managed her campaign that got her to where she is…Thank the heavens for that because now the light is shown. She DOES NOT CARE ABOUT US WAKE UP!!

  40. GotItWrong Says:

As others here have pointed out, these women seem to be missing the target. This is a case where they SHOULD be shooting the messenger. The MEDIA is the biased one and the party at fault. They are being manipulated into a suicide vote, for a candidate and party whose goals are completely against their own interests.

    - Say good bye to Roe V. Wade when McCain stacks the court. And don’t count on what will likely be Democratic majorities in the Senate to stop him (Too many DINO’s there)
    - Say good bye to any possible investigation of Bush Admin Criminality when McCain retains control of the corrupted Justice Department.
    - Say good bye to any chance at peace in the Middle East (or around the world) soon and say good bye to more of your children marching off to die in the meat grinder of his War Machines gears.
    - Say hello to continued Republican control of all the Executive Regulatory Branches and the continued dismantling of their watchdog functions (FAA, Food & Drug, etc.)

Finally, say hello to a plastic surgeon, because in my opinion, you will have cut off your face to spite your nose.

  41. Nick D Says:

TO Kalli, my information is that Harry Reid is not long to be Senate Majority Leader. He has proven extremely unpopular with rank-and-file Senate democrats this term. He bungled the ship by allowing bad bills to come to a vote that should never see the light of day.

Again, this is what I’m hearing, is that Harry Reid is going to step aside regardless and Hillary is at the top of the list of candidates to be considered.

  42. aj Says:

what??????? What is Obama guilty of?????? NBC, MSNBC…..???PLEASE TELL ME!

  43. aj Says:

what has sen. obama done that has upset this group????????

  44. jmtaylor Says:

I went door to door for Hil while living in NY during her Senate run — so I have been a very vocal Hillary supporter in the past. These ladies are either making a mountain out of a mole hill or looking for a different excuse to not vote Obama than saying “he’s black”. Seriously. As a woman…..no matter who was running on the Dem ticket….I am voting for them. You have to be completely unaware if you think a vote for McCain is sending a message that the dem party doesn’t represent women any longer. That is utter bs. Just because Hil imploded doesn’t mean the dems don’t represent us any longer. Give me a break. I don’t get this. Totally don’t get this. These ladies would prefer unending war to Obama? They would prefer McCain – who cannot keep AlQuaeda and Iraq straight –make our foreign policy? IF this is all true, these ladies were not democrats to begin with.

  45. Kalli Says:

to a) Your question reflects immaturity and cowardice. BO threw a stone through a glass window and hid your hand and pretend that someone else did it. It was his campaign that started this Hillary quit, through surrogates and media lapdogs. When that failed, they said Hillary should not tear down the party, yes, the onerous is on Hillary not BO. Get real. In Nevada, when he lost he sulked and took his marble home. In S.Carolina, after he did poorly in the debate, he gave Hillary a finger, no respect for a woman. And people want a man who is frightened to debate a woman? C’mon! He divided the party, MO chastised black voters every chance she got until 90% of black voters voted for her husband, and she disrespected Hillary eventhough Hillary helped them to win the US Senate seat. The list goes on and on. Go ahead put your blinders on. Suffice to say BO has done plenty to divide the party and playing nice at the 11th hour is too patronizing and too condescending for thinking women. Oh yeah! women do think too and intelligent and caring people. The fact that you guys dismiss women’s concerns make us even more determined.

  46. Kalli Says:

For those who believe that BO can end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, think again. You will all be sorely disappointed just like we are being let down by the Democrats we elected to the Congress in 2006. His former advisor, Samantha Power said on BBC telecast, its election talk, You’ve been had. He has yet to draw up a plan to bring home the troop. Oh yeah, right after Hillary said she would draw down the troop from Iraq after 16 months in office. He said a lot of things after what Hillary proposed, that really annoyed me. When Hillary tried to point it out, she was criticized of whinning “I seem to get the first questions all the time” not that it matters but Obama always agreed with her proposals.

  47. Kalli Says:

To Nick D: I doubt if those old boys prefer Hillary over Harry Reid. Again, I am not drinking the koolaid!

  48. Kalli Says:

To Yvonne: I am flabbergasted that you, a woman have such a low opinion of a woman. Sometimes, in fact most of the time, it is the women that discern all that glitter is not gold. Change could be good but change can also be bad. GWBush changed the course of history. CHANGE. I see that people voting for Obama are similar to people voting for Bush in 2000, they want to put Clinton to sleep, the mantra being anyone but Clinton. If you really care about women issues then stand by Hillary because she has done so much for women and have worked with NARAL to stop the Republicans from chipping down Roe v. Wade, not Obama. Oh yeah, when women voice up their opinion, you call us throwing tantrums! Wow this from a woman? Unbelievable!

Likewise, behind strong man there is a woman. Again, you belittling Hillary’s contributions in the Senate. Its unbelievable that you’re a woman. I suppose you have not been married, in love and no children. If you branded Hillary Clinton for staying in her marriage then you should do the same with all women that stay in their marriage for whatever reasons that include Jackie Kennedy, Mrs Larry Craig of Idaho, the wife of NJ governor who had a gay sexual relationship, Mrs. Eliot Spritz, and many countless women. Grow up! Women stay in marriage for various reasons perhaps for children perhaps for love, if you must know to err is human to forgive is divine. I suppose Hillary opted love and forgiveness so that she would not be another statistics in divorce rate.

You are something else an embarrassment to all women if you really think we women are what you said we are. BO has no family values, making their children listen to sermon full of hatred every sunday morning. The Obamas are the example of what the angriest family in America; they see everything that is wrong in America but never see everything that is good in America. A prostitute with intelligence and guts (like James Carville said if she gave Obama her cajones, both Obama and Clinton would still have two cajones each) gets my vote any day than a man pretending what he is not. If you think Hillary is not an example of what a women should be, pray tell who is, Michelle Obama? The angriest unsatisifed woman in America.

Her campaign may be faulty but she gets up again and again and again. One thing, Clinton is excellent candidate but bad campaign managers, Obama is mediocre candidate but excellent campaign managers. So where do you think the proof lies, in the pudding or in the packaging, dear Yvonne?

  49. Jeff Says:

Ruccia is pathetic — she’s been clamoring for attention for several years now. Clinton’s campaign was inept, and her top strategists didn’t even know the party’s most basic rules. That’s not sexism; that’s incompetence. Also, HRC voted for the war. That fact, which reflects her total lack of any core principles, has more to do with people being fed up with her than anything else.

  50. PS Says:

Given the amount of misinformation and obvious anti-Obama/pro-McCain talking points I’m seeing here I think it’s a safe bet that some of the people posting are simply trying to play the dems against themselves.

    Don’t be fooled.

  51. Christopher London Says:

Cynthia Ruccia is symptomatic of the rabid Hillary supporters who have been duped or are simply unwilling to pull off HILLARY’S MASK OF DECEPTION and examine the DEMON SEED which lay before their eyes. Pull of the Mask of Deception: Fake Blue Eyes via colored contact lenses, dyed blonde hair, botox treated face and mid western pant suits, all by design to turn Hillary into the ALL AMERICAN MID WESTERN LADY. Hillary is a shape shifting political fraud who is a faux feminist and working class predator who feeds off planting vitrolic hate bombs towards the opposition in those communities while she poses as a victim. Hillary’s ELITISM is that she thinks a few tears, some fake promises and posing as a victim of her husband’s sexuallly predatory behavior (most of which she worked to cover up behind the scenes) makes her one of “YOU”–you being the working class housewife who’s husband cheats on her and those with no health care or job security. A woman who can loan her campaign $16 Million dollars but takes campaign donations from children who sell their bicycles and brags about it. Hillary and Bill have never leveled with the American people about who they are and what they represent. America and Hillary’s supporters need to be taught how to turn a page and find more honorable, less deceitful, less fraudulent, women of accomplishment and allow the morally compromised Clintons disappear into the wilderness of American political history. Their Legacy is a fraudulent one, it is one filled with missed opportunity wherein the Democratic Party was simply used as an instrumentality to innure to their own benefit, where principles, the office, the candidate and his/her soul are bought and sold. Once you come to embrace the truth about the Clinton’s you will never vote, shed a tearor donate a dime to their campaigns.

  52. DARRELL Says:

You know I try to keep my spirit up on this countries advancement in prejudice(different than racism which should be used less). I am a Christain at put women to high regard and try to do less of place them in a domestic role as history has done. But is all honesty when I read the anger at Obama and the hypocrisy from mainly white women it hurts. I am neither Dem nor Rep I go for the best that I feel. The Rep I wanted did not make it so I will lean Dem this time. But the same thing Hillary and others have said Obama does what he has because of the black vote. Turn around and confirm Hillary is where she is because of the female vote. Now the female vote can get you elected not the black vote. I can only swing if everyone else splits. So not only are you hypocrits but very childish because your candidate who was mine prior to her Rep when at all cost approach. I have learned that the leadership I thought could be handled by women would be a mistake. Because I see if you do not get your way then like they say a women scorned is bad news. So I could not get myself the vote for a women who represents and reflect most of the women that are being so bitter and mean with this contest. She just might at the same to other countries she feels hurt by. Sad to view you ladies like that but that is what I am seeing with a lot of you. And I know you are better than this but at least the McCain party loves you.

  53. enoch needles Says:

Nothing says “Fight Sexism” like voting for a man who called his wife a “c–t”, who will work to overturn Roe v Wade, who will send more of our sons AND daughters off to die in a purposeless war, and who will create a 9-0 Supreme Court bent on putting women in their place.

If Hillary gets the nomination, guess what? I’ll vote for her because the alternative is unthinkable.

  54. Nakia Says:

Isn’t it sexist that these women believe that regardless of the fact that she ran the worst campaign in history, that she should still win because she is a woman?

  55. Terry Libby Says:

Anyone who believes that Hillary Clinton represents the interests of women as a group is tragically mistaken. A few sexist stones have been cast here and there by the media during the course of this campaign, pebbles in fact, but far, far more serious is the pandering to racist impulses that Clinton and her supporters have engaged in. By her silence and/or by her weak, pro forma objections, she has implicitly condoned and encouraged this.

Hillary Clinton’s political success derives in part from her intelligence and drive, but it derives in far greater measure from her husband’s accomplishments. That is, by definition, an anti-feminist circumstance. Is this not obvious? Further, she had no public reaction as her husband repeatedly, and over the course of many years, violated their partnership and made a joke of their marriage–before the eyes of the entire world. Her apparent willingness to accept doormat status in her personal life should tell you something. It is troubling to think what a generation of younger women has made of this. Women’s issues will never be addressed if women only come together on the basis of commiseration and shared victimhood.

When the dust settles, Ruccia and other such people will look like a bunch of foolish conspiracy theorists. What scares me is just how far they, and Hillary, have set back the cause of equality for women.

  56. HG Says:

I don’t think voting in protest for McCain is as bad as tolerating the abuse women suffer from the deep seated misogynistic attitudes prevalent in the society and obvious in the comments on blogs such as this one.

    Keep on fooling yourselves.

  57. HG Says:

    @Nakia

What is sexist is winning Indiana and not only being discounted but being told to bow out.

I don’t know what you mean by ‘worst’ campaigns. Hillary’s wins:

    California (52%)
    Texas (51%)
    New York (57%)
    Nevada (51%)
    Kentucky (66%)
    Michigan (55%)
    Florida (50%)
    Arizona (50%)
    Arkansas (70%)
    Massachusetts (56%)
    New Jersey (54%)
    New Mexico (49%)
    Tennessee (54%)
    Ohio (54%)
    Rhode Island (58%)
    Pennsylvania (55%)
    Indiana (51%)
    West Virginia (67%)

Count Florida and Michigan in and Hillary leads in the popular vote. She has won over 17 million votes.

When a man runs a campaign as bad as Hillary’s, watch and see how he’ll be deemed the winner.

  58. Terry Libby Says:

Hillary Clinton should make a clear, immediate public statement denouncing Cynthia Ruccia’s tactics, urging women to vote for John McCain. If she won’t, it is the strongest evidence yet that she cares more about her own ambitions than she does about women’s equality, justice, or America’s economic and environmental safety. Not to mention ending this war.

  59. Terry in MA Says:

I just spoke with Cynthia Ruccia personally on the telephone from her home in Bexley, Ohio. I assure you that I am serious. I left a message on her machine, and she kindly returned my call. She spoke to me at some length. She said she “can’t believe the level of rage” she feels about the betrayal of women by the Democratic Party. She did, indeed, sound enraged.

I asked her to describe to me any specific example of sexism she has observed in the media. She would not, saying that she wouldn’t bother to describe such things to anyone who fails to see that the sexism directed at Hillary Clinton is constant and completely obvious. She told me a lot about her “feminist” creditials. She used the word “we” throughout our conversation. When I asked who she meant by “we,” she answered, “millions of women!”

She also said that she feels Geraldine Ferraro’s views are admirable and “heroic,” and that the media is “swift-boating” the Clintons by portraying them and their tactics as racist. She said with absolute assurance that “the Obama campaign is threatening to cause race riots everywhere.” She has a deeply negative view of Donna Brazile, and misquoted Brazile as having said that the Obama campaign “does not need women in its coalition.” She assured me she really likes African Americans. Many of her employees, she says, are African American. (Ruccia is a sales rep for Mary Kay cosmetics.)

In short, Ruccia was completely irrational and sees in every news image and bit of media dialogue she hears the taint of the hateful sexism. This she believes with the consumate conviction of a true paranoid.

  60. Bren Says:

This is NOT just an issue about women. The DNC and Obama have clearly forgotten about the 3 largest group of voters/supporters that they ALL need to get re-elected. 1st and probably the most critical voters are the middle working class voters. It is very clear to me that Obama does NOT represent this group of voters when states like PA, WV, KY, OH, TN and more overwhelmingly voted for Hillary. AND the other state that the DNC has ignored is MI. And I don’t want to hear about how they cheated and didn’t follow DNC party rules. First of all, it’s the DP that screwed that up NOT MI voters. Since when do millions of voters in a state make the decision to move their primary date up and break party rules. That falls on the DP leaders of the state NOT the voters. And let’s NOT forget the other significant group of voters over 55, 60, and 65 that have NOT been voting for Obama. He’s yet to say what he will do to make a difference for this group of voters. Again the DP/DNC have missed the boat by NOT allowing FL voters to make a difference in this election. It’s NOT the voters who changed the primary date it’s the state DP officials and in FL’s case probably the Republican Party played a role in the screw up. And since this blog is about Ruccia and the outraged women voters, I would agree this is the 3rd group that the DP/DNC has left out of the picture. Obama may have the lead in delegates/super delegates and the Popular vote according to the media and the DNC, BUT if the DNC and it’s party leaders would take a good look at the overall voting picture Hillary represents a diverse group of voters. She represents the majority of middle class voters, majority of elderly, majority of women plus she also has a diverse group of young voters. Yes, I am a Hillary supporter and I will continue to support Hillary. What many have not considered in Mr. Bushes reign as our President is that while in office until the DP recaptured the majority of seats in the House and Senate a little over 2 years ago, Mr. Bush was working with a majority of Republican ran House and Senate which is always bad news for the U.S. This pretty much gave him carte blance to do what he wanted because the REP. Party was NOT going to say NO to him while their pockets were getting padded. AND now we’re faced with the same scenario when we vote for the next President in Nov.08. However, at the rate the DNC and DP have managed to anger a large percentage of voters, I see several things happening. 1. If enough Dem. Party voters are angry at the DP/DNC, they will either vote for McCain or NOT turn out to vote. Either way this affects Obama and the DP/DNC. 2. The DP voters who do switch sides and vote for McCain will actually be a good thing because then if the House/Senate remains controlled by Democrats a Republican President will balance the government and we won’t have 4 more years of Bush’s craziness. 3. Should Obama represent the DP as it’s nominee, there’s a HUGE difference in winning the popular vote in a state than it is winning the caucus votes. Several of the states that Obama won were because of the caucus vote and trust me when I say caucusing is a BIG joke. I’m from Texas and although Hillary won the popular vote, Obama won the Caucus vote which gave him more delegates in Texas. It did not represent the REAL vote in Texas. Howard Dean, Super Delegates and the whole DNC/DP leaders have all lost their minds. This voting process is ALL about getting the DP leaders re-elected NOT about what the voters need in a President. Obama is NOT what America needs. WE have some major challenges ahead of us and I don’t believe Obama is the person to get us beyond those challenges. If the government was a major corporate business entity like a Shell Corp. or Chevron USA, do you honestly believe that the Board of Directors would choose someone green behind the ears to be their next CEO. I don’t think so! They would choose the most qualified candidate and a BIG part would be their experience. While I understand the argument for fresh/new ideas, Obama needs more experience in Leadership. George Bush is the perfect example of someone lacking experience that has royally messed things up. He was the governor of Texas for a short time and in my opinion only got elected to President because people liked his daddy. At least his daddy wasn’t an arrogant man and completely ruined our relations with most countries throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. If Obama were elected, it would take him 4 years before he figured out what to do. And I believe he would do more fence riding than he’d actually make sound decisions. As for the media abuse of Hillary, it’s been down right flagrant. Until Rush Limbaugh and some of his croanies started bashing Obama, he was receiving a cake walk. AND I have been down right disappointed in the way that the DNC (especially Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, and the Governor of NM) have disrespected Hillary and her supporters. WHY would she bow out when she was still winning votes? I believe she has set an example for young women and just the youth of today by NOT giving up/quitting!! One of the problems in our society today is people give up too quickly. DP leaders and especially the DNC should have been in complete support of her continuing NOT asking her to step down. All that said to me was they were more concerned about their elections than to hear what the voters were saying. Today I heard a news report that said that whenever voters are this outraged and pulling for a certain candidate that doesn’t win the nomination they will eventually come around and still vote for the party representative. I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THE DP/DNC AND BARRACK OBAMA ARE UNDERESTIMATING TODAY’S VOTERS! I am an educated woman, know what I want in life and in a President and Barrack Obama is NOT that person. If Hillary isn’t the DP nomination, I WILL BE VOTING FOR JOHN MCCAIN. So many DP voters are caught up in McCain keeping our troops in Iraq for 100 years, well excuse me for sounding ignorant BUT that’s NOT possible unless the next 25 Presidents agree to keep the troops in Iraq. Yes, I know getting our young men and some older back from war is a HUGE concern for many parents, BUT WE need to be EMAILING AND CALLING our U.S. Senators and House Reps and tell them how we feel and that we want our troops out. If and when Congress put enough pressure on the President, then he’d have no choice but to withdraw our troops. BUT our greatest need as a nation is the ECONOMY. What has Congress done in the last 2 years to effect change? Remember, WE have a Democratic Majority currently in office. It’s time that the DP stepped up and made a difference for the people or GET OUT of office. I don’t watch TV much, but the things I’ve seen of Nancy Pelosi she’s a disgrace to women. Also, I recently read where Pelosi was having talks with I think it was Israel about Iran. What the HELL is SHE doing over there? IRAN nor ISRAEL have anything to do with our ECONOMY. Remember, when George Sr. said no more taxes. Well, Nancy it’s the ECONOMY STUPID! Hillary is NOT going to hide oversees while the American people continue to suffer in a lousy economy. She’ll be in the white house with her sleeves rolled up working out a plan and putting it into action to make a difference. Obama would be writing pretty speeches trying to snowball more voters. It’s amazing to me how the middle class, elderly, and women have NOT been snowballed by his pretty words. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! IT’S ACTION NOT WORDS!
