More on ODP’s handpicked convention blogger – Technorati authority ignored in selection

Here are the metrics from the DNC application for State Blogger Credentials, which can be found at this link in a PDF file.

To qualify as a state blogger, the applicant’s blog must have been in existence six months prior to requesting credentials and have at least 120 politically related blog posts. Bloggers submitted their daily audience and listed their authority based on Technorati statistics. Bloggers could also provide examples of posts that make their blog stand out as an effective online organizing tool and/or agent of change.

Yesterday, we talked about the daily audience, comparing Chris Redfern’s handpicked patsy, Ohio Daily Blog, with Ohio’s top blog, Buckeye State Blog.  Based on Blogads, BSB has 3 times the traffic as ODB.

Today, we look at Technorati authority, which is basically a measure of how many people link to your blog, and thus your authority in the blogosphere.  Here’s what Technorati has to say about BSB vs. ODB.

BSB’s authority based on Technorati, a specific metric outlined by the DNC for credentialling, is almost DOUBLE that of ODB.  At the time of application, BSB’s authority likely was closer to triple that of ODB.

So based on another objective criteria laid out by the DNC itself in its application process for blogger credentials, BSB should have been credentialed.  Unless, of course, Fernsy handpicked ODB.

According to BNN (not that I trust their stats), ODB is the #1 most influential this week. BSB is #12…

    Joe,

BNN rankings are irrelevant for the DNC. The only ranking that was mentioned in the DNC app was Technorati. Not only that, but BNN’s rankings have been consistently ridiculous on their face. If anyone thinks that these rankings are meaningful, they’re dreaming. Not to mention that the process for BNN’s rankings have never been clear or transparent from the start.

    Joe-

Look, Jill admits BSB traffic trumps hers by far. Politics Extra is the Cincinnati Enquirer’s blog but it’s not nearly as informative as Openers and is more like a discussion board. DaytonOS? If it weren’t on LeftyBlogs, I’d never have heard of it.

BTW, if you don’t trust their stats, then what’s the point of posting them? If it’s unreliable data, don’t rely on it. Seems pretty easy to me.
