Chris Matthews has said on Harball that white racists need a “permission slip” to vote against, and speak out against, Barack Obama’s candidacy.  They don’t want to look like racists (how many times have you heard people tell you they aren’t racist as they proceed to act like one?) but they want to have some intellectual cover from their leaders to act on their instinct under an illusion of reasonableness.  It was the cornerstone of the code words “states rights”, “quotas”, and the like, which the GOP has spent years perfecting.

Hillary Clinton has spent the last six months creating a new set of code words that act as a racist’s permission slip.  People like to complain that there is no evidence that bigots actually take this permission and act on it.

Well, we have that evidence now, thanks to John Ettorre, a Cleveland freelance writer who would otherwise strike you as a normal, liberal, mock-turtle-neck sporting, Shaker Heights artsy tree hugger type.  Except he finds a comfortable place at Jill’s blog to announce to the world that not only is he a gay-hating bigot, but also a black-hating bigot. 

Maybe I just plain don’t like him, find him arrogant and presumptuous (that he’s qualified to be president with his absurdly thin resume) and I’m merely using this as a post-hoc rationalization. Entirely possible. Maybe there’s a sliver (or maybe more than a sliver) of unconscious racial bias thrown in too…

And he’s a seriously thinking racist, too.

Serious writers & thinkers try to delve into reality and the world as they find it in all its shades of gray, however non-PC that might be.

Jill’s blog has become a place where outright bigots like John Ettorre, who would never have dared utter these words, either in public or private, are letting their freak flags fly.  Now that the Hillary Clinton campaign has spent six months race-baiting, and blog’s like Jill’s have been completely silent in the face of it, bigots like Ettorre, now have their permission slip, and feel so comfortable in this environment that they not only tell the world they are racist, but claim they are being “serious writers & thinkers” while doing so.  See - just like Hillary!

As stunning as this is, just imagine what liberties are being taken by those “hard working white people” without John Ettorre’s college education.  Hillary Clinton’s campaign has created an environment where a man who claims the seriousness that John Ettorre claims feels free to publish on the internet his bigotry, claim it’s legitimate, and actually be proud of it.  That Clinton-created environment is going to yield far worse manifestations than the pathetic meanderings of a fool like John Ettorre.

I’ve always known John Ettorre was a phony. I didn’t know he was a racist until he told us all on a blog.  Thanks for making that possible, Jill, and make sure to thank Hillary for me.
