Dann to step down in AUGUST? Nice try, Fernsy.

Politics

So Eric is reporting that Dann will step down in August, so that Chris Redfern and Ted Strickland can stitch up another appointment of another incompetent corrupt crony.

The delay is in order to have Dann in office for the time period necessary to trigger an appointment, else there would be a special election. Per Article 3, Section 18 of the Ohio Constitution.

This is an astounding level of hubris, even for the TedFern Mafia.  TedFern wants Ohio voters to wait, while months more of scandal erupt every single day, so the guy whose election they stitched up can survive whatever “review” is being stitched up by the guy who stitched up Dann’s endorsement, long enough for them to stitch up another appointee.

I don’t know whether to vomit or laugh myself into a coma.

Instead, I’ll remind us about what’s happening after August.

Whether it’s Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton, we need to win Ohio in the fall.  And if Ohio spends the summer waiting for Marc Dann to resign, you think the GOP will just sit around and wait until he’s gone before tying him around our presidential nominee’s neck?  So TedFern can make another corrupt appointment, of another corrupt crony?

For example, let’s say TedFern decides on Bill Mason, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, to whom Chris Redfern owes his chairmanship.  Bill Mason is as corrupt as Marc Dann is horny.  Anyone tied to Pat O’Malley at the hip for as long as Bill Mason has been is simply more ammo for the GOP.

Dann needs to resign NOW.  And a special election must be held NOW.  With no endorsements.  I can’t see any other way that Ohio can remain a likely pickup for the Democrats in November.

Completely agree about the fierce urgency of now…

Yup, the plan all along has been to buy time to skip an election. Maybe Dann and Ted are in on it together. “Look, you gotta go, so I’m gonna make it sound like you gotta go today, but hang in a few months.” “OK, I can do that. I may be toast, but I don’t want Betty back in this office.”

If Cordray or whomever gets this office the dirty way, he deserves to lose in 2010 just on principle. The ODP gave Ohio a raw deal with Dann, and Ohio should get to vote on the do-over.

Anything less, and Ted deserves to lose, too, just for depriving Ohioans of a fair chance at a do-over.
