BSB - Fernsy made the decision on convention blogger credentials

Media, Politics

BSB confirms that ODP chair Chris Redfern made the call on which blog got credentialed for the national convention.

Then Jerid got a hold of some contacts in DC who explained to him that the final call came down to the Ohio Democratic Party and its chairman, Chris Redfern. And that it was the ‘Fernmeister  who chose ODB instead of us.

Why should this matter?  Because the DNC’s own application process was not about who Fernsy wanted, but objective standards.

Now, I’m rather angry about this, and I’ll tell you why. If the final call was going to come down to Fernsy, why have selection criteria at all? The DNCC should have just called the Fern and asked him who he wanted to go, and had it over and done with. Instead, Jerid did a whole bunch of paperwork documenting BSB’s superiority in the specified criteria for absolutely no reason at all, because at the end of the day, those criteria didn’t matter.

What criteria did matter?  Whoever Fernsy felt would do his bidding.

It was all about who Fernsy wanted, and the Fern wanted ODB, presumably because they are more faithful than we about posting every damn press release that comes out, and never criticizing anyone. I should have known this was coming when the Fern gave me the brush off at this weekend’s Ohio Democratic Party convention in Columbus.

BSB just got rogered good by the Ohio Democratic Party. And we won’t forget it.

Here’s my email to Aaron Myers, of the DNCC’s online team, drawing their attention to this issue.

I wanted to draw your attention to an issue regarding the selection of the blogger from Ohio to cover the DNC convention in Denver.  Please see this post for background.

I am concerned that the DNC ignored objective metrics laid out in its application process in favor of an arbitrary and subjective decision to credential a blogger for political reasons.  Can you comment on this for me?  I’d like to have something from the DNC officially for my blog.  There are plenty of bloggers in Ohio who are perplexed by this.

I did not apply for my blog, but I do know the Buckeye State Blog crew, as does everyone in the Ohio blogosphere, and I feel confident in saying that BSB’s coverage from the convention is what the Ohio blogosphere not only deserves, but expects, given the clear objective standards BSB met in its application.

Thanks.

If Jeff Coryell had any self-respect, he’d decline his credential and ask the DNC to stand by its own standards, rather than Chris Redfern’s.

I didn’t get picked either, but it’s interesting to learn that it was Chris who decided. I was also under the impression that we were going to be judged on a variety of areas, which included traffic.

I don’t mind not being “the one” but it would have been nice for there to have been a bit more honesty in the process. If I would have known it was an ODP decision rather than one based on my merits as a blogger I wouldn’t have spent so much time on the application or held out any hope that I would be the one who was selected.

well.. I’m still pissed no one even told me that I had that option!

    Stupid techorati.
