So some asshole asks me to read 2nd Thessalonians 3:10…

Media, My Story

You never know how people will respond to the tip jar on a blog.  Sometimes complete strangers hit the tip jar and you’re so pleasantly surprised, you regain a little more faith in humanity.  And sometimes you get surprised in the opposite direction, from people you actually know….like this email I just got.

“I certainly will keep you in my prayers.  However, please don’t ask me for money again.  As I noted in my previous email, asking me once puts me in a difficult position.  Now asking a second time is truly upsetting.  I cannot disobey God by sending you money in violation of 2nd Thessalonians 3:10.”

What’s 2nd Thessalonians 3:10?

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

I don’t know if this jackass wants me to starve, or thinks I don’t work, or both.  I do know he’s a Bible beating GOP voter who claims to be a friend, and who obviously finds something objectionable here.  Fine.  However, this asshole, who shall remain nameless, has a lot of nerve quoting scripture, saying he’s praying for me, while expressing such a blatantly un-Christian sentiment.

I sent out a ton of emails launching my new blog, and in everyone I asked for donations.  And support from all quarters, whether it’s readership, or a tip in the tip jar, is appreciated tremendously.  Make no mistake - this blog is work.  It is what I now do full time, after having blogged for years on and off full time.  It’s much more time consuming than just about any job I’ve ever had, save campaign work.  And it is my goal to make it my primary income.

Beside that, I’ve spent the hardest part of the last 7 years looking for work, and that search is work, too - especially when it is almost impossible to find anyone who will hire someone with a criminal record, however limited that record may be.   And when I do get paying gigs, I bust my ass, whether it’s in the West Bank, or the UK, or down the street from my house volunteering my time, or at the radio station where I’m a volunteer DJ.

Memo to asshole - tip jars on blogs are standard.  Advertising will some day make this hard work a viable income - hopefully soon.  Until then, tips are a major part of what pays for this site to keep going.  If you don’t want to hit the tip jar, whether or not you know me or are a complete stranger, that’s fine.

However, if you don’t want to hit the tip jar, based on some mutation of whatever “faith” you practice, or on some other level of disapproval, then do me a favor.  Just don’t hit the tip jar, o.k.?  And save your prayers for your own soul.  Mine doesn’t need them.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Asshole.

Whenever I’m feeling down or wander from what I know to be my true path, I take solace in the inspired reading of my favorite scripture verse, Malichi 2:3, found in the following youtube vid:
