Feature posts

The top portion of the main page scrolls 2-3 featured posts, big and bold, just like you want it. You can scroll through them faster by using the arrow bars at either end of the view box, or you can wait and they’ll scroll ever-so-hiply before your very eyes. If you hold your cursor over the Feature area, the scrolling will stop, so you can read the excerpt before deciding to click through for the whole post.

Video

At the bottom of the page is my front page collection of YouTubes I’ve created. If it’s in that window at the bottom of the front page, it’s a video I’ve done myself. Any other videos I link to (and I do like the YouTubes!) will appear in the main body of a post.

Navigation

Click around all you like! There’s a pane on the front page that easily highlights recent comments, tags, featured posts, and popularity (see below!). The top menu bars of the main page are designed to make it easy to find what you’re looking for, and there’s a search function at the top.

Font size

Getting a little short in the eyesight? You can make the font bigger or smaller on this blog by simply clicking the capital letter “A” (bigger) or small letter “a” (smaller) you see in the top right corner of the page. Check it out. It’s awesome. I couldn’t believe it myself.

Ads

I’ve been trying to figure out how to monetize my blogging for a long time, and so you’ll see some ads here. I’m trying to make them as unobtrusive as possible, and think the network that I’m on is good for that. Would love your thoughts.

Popularity

At the end of each post is the rank of that post or page compared to the other posts and pages on the site. The more people are reading, the higher the popularity of the post. Helps you follow the buzz!

Feeds!

Who doesn’t like RSS feeds?! At the upper right of the main page, you can get a feed for posts or comments, either through your RSS reader, or your email. Just click on the neat orange icon under the search box, or the relevant feed types you’d like, and you’re subscribed!

Commenting & Commenting Policy

Commenting is easy here, and recent comments appear in the pane on the front page. Policy? Ok, I don’t like comment policies as a rule. My only rule is that you comment at your own risk – if you want to be anonymous, that’s fine, but I’m pretty much the gold-standard for uncovering phonies, paid staff, and sock-puppets using my blog for their own horseshit, and Homey don’t play dat. So it’s in your interest to be who you say you are, whether or not that’s an anonymous troll or a nice guy. I have only ever banned two commenters in my entire 4 year blogging career. So chat away!

Other stuff

There’s a thing called “Asides” which I’m trying to figure out a use for…basically little things that don’t deserve a post, seems like a Twitter-y thing. We’ll see if I use it. I’m still working through all the nooks and crannies of this wicked theme, so there might be new stuff rolled out in the future.
